Bakery

A worker-owned cooperative bakery and pizzeria, part of a chain of several in the Bay Area. Usually at least a couple baked vegan treats like vegan muffin and vegan cookie, plus a vegan bread - call ahead. Arizmendi is the shortened name of Jose Maria Arizmendiarrieta, a young priest who inspired and helped found the Mondragon Cooperatives in the Basque Country of Spain in the 1950s. Open Tue-Sun 8:00am-8:00pm.

Great spot for the early morning

We arrived at Arizmendi when they opened on the morning on June 1, 2024.

You can check the menu on their website because it will give information about what vegan items will be available on which days.

It was Saturday and there were chocolate mint cookies and a zucchini, carrot, pumpkin muffin that we're both vegan. I couldn't decide which I wanted to try, so I ended up ordering doing them both! No regrets there, they were equally delicious!

Coffee is equally delicious and very reasonably priced. And at the condiment bar there is oat milk to add to your coffee and no additional charge. You get a discount if you bring your own mug.

They also have vegan pizza. I need to try that on my next visit.

Pros: Friendly service, worker owned, Many rotating vegan choices

Cons: Seating fills up quickly when busy

Best of Oakland

No doubt about it, this place is great. Cherry currant scone is the best thing they sell. Hummus also great.

Vegan and Vegetarian Pizza

Great crusts on their pizzas. We got both a vegan pizza for my husband and a vegetarian pizza for me and my daughter. Other than one ‘cheese’ being plant based, the pizzas were identical. There is a difference in taste, of course, but the vegan version was hobbled up as quickly or even quicker than the cow cheese version. Supper yummy! Note, pizzas are take and bake.

Pros: Vegan pizza, Wonderful crusts on the pizzas, It’s a cooperative

Cons: It is more expensive than Dominos, but way better
