Great for pub grub

I have eaten here before and had one of the nicest cauliflower steaks I've ever had.

This visit was on a Sunday so I chose the Sunday roast, although there was also a vegan pasta & curry dish to choose from. The quinoa, beetroot and edamame roast, came in the form of two patties, along with broccoli, carrot & turnip, red cabbage, stuffing, roast potatoes and of course gravy. The patties had a very soft texture but tasted good. The meal itself was very well presented and I enjoyed it.

On the handful of times I've eaten here I have never had a poor meal. There's not a huge choice for vegans but there is choice and the quality of the food is really good, especially considering it is basically pub grub.

Service was good and they also accept & give discount for blue light card holders.

Pleasantly Surprised!

I did not expect this pub to be so vegan friendly. I've eaten here twice now and on both occasions the food has been really good. During the day, they run their Main Menu and Light Lunch Menu, and they offer a reduced menu with roast dinners, including vegan options on their Sunday Menu. Their choice of vegan starters include Pea & Shallot Ravioli and Tempura Vegetables, mains options include Plant Based Burger, Garden Pea, Courgette & Spinach Linguini and the Butterbean & Cauliflower Goan Curry, and the vegan dessert option is Apple Tarte Tatin. They also served sandwiches during the day, and there were no vegan choices available. There were additional vegetarian options available, such as Orzo & Mediterranean Vegetable Salad and Crumbly Lancashire Cheese With Apple & Ale Chutney Sandwich and they also catered to gluten-free, and their menu was well labelled to each diet. The staff have been friendly during both visits, but the service was also slow both of these times.

Pros: Multiple Choices, Vegan Choices Clearly Labelled , Great Food

Cons: Slow Service , No Vegan Sandwich Options, Only One Dessert Option

Not vegan friendly

No plant based milk. No margarine. Deep fried hash browns tasted of fish.
Tables dirty.

Has vegan options

They have a couple vegan options so nice to have choice. Detailed menu so swaps can be made to make dishes vegan.

Pros: Several vegan options , Cheap drinks , Has beer garden

Cons: Slightly expensive , Could be tastier , Not enough vegan options

Wide range of options

Shared the vegan sharing board then had the vegan pasta, both were amazing! Very nice to see a mock meat pasta dish so freely available.

Disappointed…

Booked a table on a Sunday as a vegan Sunday roast was advertised AND they had cheesecake!

But then they told us as we ordered the chef had used goose fat to cook the potatoes so they weren’t offering a Sunday lunch that day.
No cheesecake available either.
Huge disappointment from us all, although the manager did give a large discount when we conveyed our disappointment.
Staffs knowledge was non committal and dismissive, even though their menu labelling was great… so their poor comms lead to doubt of some products being SFV.

Pros: Great location. , Clear labelling on the menu

Cons: Menu unavailable , Poor communication from staff

Sunday lunch

Nice pub very busy stopped for Sunday lunch but although advertised that had a vegan nut roast available were in formed the veg was cooked in goose fat . So they managed to make a vegetable non vegan . Other offerings of banana blossom was ok as was the cauliflower steak . Also pea fritters were good as a starter . vegan cheese cake that was on menu not available . Service was good and we had a discount for the problems but not sure they deserve their happy cow status .

Pros: Nice pub

Cons: Half vegan options on menu not available

Nice vibrant salad

I have to say I wasn't expecting to be able to get something vegan from here but I saw the superfood salad on the menu and I asked if it was vegan and explained (as I get nervous they don't get it) and it was! Was reasonably good for example the carrots were cooked to perfection but the pomegranate wasn't as ripe as hoped! After i visited I went on tripadvisor and it seems like quite a few vegans go there for the superfood salad! The staff were accomadating and kind and I was lucky to have a lactose intolerant waitress who felt the need to triple check the dressing ingredients for me!
