Authentic Thai flavors with generous portions - Edit
Diverse menu with generous portions and authentic flavours.
Read moreFor someone like my family who is vegetarian since birth and by choice, mock meats are a huge turn off. It was great to find a place that makes authentic Thai food with no mock meat.
Pros: No mock meat, Mostly vegan menu. Noodles with 🥚clearly marked, Flavors not watered down for western taste
Cons: They serve eggs and egg noodles

It was hard to choose what to eat! So many options! Stir fry and curry were delicious. Would have liked more choices of drinks.

Hidden gem - Edit
Despite being located fairly centrally in the Nimman area, this spot is hidden away down an alleyway and up a narrow flight of stairs. Look out for a faded purple sign reading 'organic' in capital letters to guide you to the otherwise nondescript entryway.
Read moreOnce inside, you’re greeted with a bright space full of potted plants and walls adorned with local artwork. A colourful, jungle-themed mural surrounds a blackboard where the smoothies of the day are displayed in hand written chalk, alongside a reminder that this is a restaurant and not a co-working space! I can’t imagine the solid wood chairs make for a particularly ergonomic sitting experience after a while anyway.
The humble A4 paper menu is clearly organised into categories—curries, soups, stir fry, salads and more. An asterisk denotes which dishes are vegan, but almost the full menu can in fact be veganised by just removing egg (with the obvious exception of Category 5 - Omelettes). My favourites have to be the creamy, coconut-based curries and the various tofu and veg dishes in the Stir Fry category which are fresh and filling. Their tamarind iced tea is also a standout for me, uniquely tangy and refreshing. Portions are generous and I almost always end up with leftovers for later, making this place even better value for money than it already is!
Pros: Bright and colourful interior 🌻, Fresh and healthy 🌱, Big portions 🫄
Cons: Serves egg 🐣

Great food (and service) that even non vegans love - Edit
We’ve eaten at Anchan twice now during an extended stay in Chiang Mai. The menu is about 95% vegan with just a few vegetarian (non vegan) options. As a vegan, it is wonderful to have so many options! And the food was superb. Authentic local Thai food prepared with fresh ingredients and just the right level of spicing and seasoning. Nothing bland about the food here. My husband is not vegan so we are always looking for restaurants we can both enjoy. That usually means non vegetarian restaurants with vegan options. The food at Anchan is so flavorful that my husband doesn’t miss the meat and is more than happy to eat there. (He thinks that the Pad Thai is some of the best he’s ever had.). It’s a win/win! The service is also fabulous. Attentive and helpful with menu questions. I cannot recommend Anchan more highly for anyone! #Veganuary

Amazing, highly recommend! - Edit
This was easily some of the best food we’ve had since arriving in Thailand. We asked for spicy and it was hot but not too hot, we like spice! We had Green Curry, Massaman Curry & Anchan Fried Rice. Seriously good flavours, definitely worth the visit!

Delicious, spicy and great portions! - Edit
Love the variety of food and the taste. The fried rice portions are substantial - we had three people and had trouble finishing one (along with two other dishes). The food is actually nicely spicy as well, although you do have to ask for it to be hot, and they have a great selection of fresh smoothies as well. Highly recommend the long eggplant and Thai miso stir fry as well, it's great and super savory!

Best red curry! - Edit
Fantastic menu! Everything is vegetarian and the vegan options are clearly marked on the menu. We tried the pumpkin red curry and tofu cashew sweet and sour stir fry - both were delicious. We would love to come back and try everything else. The restaurant isn't massive inside (maybe 10 tables) but service is fast so if they're busy and you can't get a spot, I'd recommend waiting around for one to open - the food is worth it!

Rude waitress - Edit
When I ordered the Thai basil fried rice, the waitress asked if egg was ok, I said “no, add extra tofu in place of eggs”. She then added egg and accused me of the error.

In addition. No toilet paper in the poorly maintained bathroom.

Yum! - Edit
Though a little on the expensive side, you get what you pay for as Anchan uses fresh quality ingredients to make their mouth-watering Thai dishes. Their tempeh is made in house and is a must-try! I hosted a vegan meetup here a couple months back and the owner and staff were very helpful and friendly--answering our questions, accomodating special requests, and even sharing some trade secrets. I highly recommend giving this spot a try!

Best vegan food in Chiang Mai!! - Edit
Where do I start? The atmosphere is awesome and great for a nice night out. Everything is very reasonably priced and the food is AMAZING! Try the butterfly pea pad Thai it’s a nice twist on traditional pad Thai and is nothing short of boring.
