On the main road from Ning Bing to Tam Coc, look for the sign "com chay" (veg) on the right side of the road. Not fully vegan despite the sign - vegans advised to specify. Small family-run establishment; may close irregularly so call ahead to confirm open. Open Mon-Sun 8:00am-8:00pm. Closed first two days of Vietnamese new year.

Great Food and Friendly Locals - Edit

We went there 2 times during our 3 night visit to Tam Coc. They sometimes look closed but open if you knock :D
As someone wrote before, not everything was available but the meals that were, can‘t tell enough about it!
The fake meat (soy protein) is great, we liked the authentic banana flower salad the most.
8 meals and tea for 5 people cost ~ 330 k Dong. More cheap than reasonable, I would have paid more because the quality is great!
Thank you so much,
Family Martin

Pros: Local meals, Cheap AND good quality

Great tasting home cooked food - Edit

We found this place after a hike in Cuc Phung and visiting hoa lu the old capital. The menu was extensive but everything we ordered was full of flavours. My personal favourite was the banana blossom salad. It is a family run place when we ordered the little girl ran out to get some fresh spinach leaves. Her mom took our order and the grandma cooked and served the food. Highly recommend it

Fantastic place. - Edit

Very good food and lots of choices. The restaurant, like many in Vietnam, is a part of the owner's home. Three generations of the family were there. They were all friendly and helpful (even called a taxi for us).

I would like to add that we had a little trouble finding it but locals on the street helped when I showed them the photo of the place. There is no good reason to give a bad review here if you can't find the place. This should have a full 5 stars.

get the tofu stuffed with mushrooms - Edit

I went twice, first I got the stuffed tofu, chicken thighs, rice and a passion fruit juice (total 80k). And the next day I got the prawns, sweet and sour pork ribs, rice and orange juice (95k). The only thing I wouldn't recommend are the prawns, everything else was so great. Many things I tried to order were unavailable. Lovely family that runs it. Location is the main road that follows the river, with a big sign out the front. When I went it looked closed but when I went in she turned the lights on and said it was open. Wifi. Menu doesn't have prices but both my meals where I ordered two dishes, rice and juice all came to under 100,000vnd.

Pros: great mock meat dishes, English menu with pictures , very affordable

Cons: looks closed when it's open, many dishes unavailable, prices not listed on menu

Nice little family restaurant. Good menu, plenty of veg, tofu and mock meat options. We had the mushroom stuffed tofu, which was delicious. Nice host. Reasonably priced.

Lovely staff, delicious food! - Edit

The owner, a mother with her child, was amazingly friendly and lovable. She speaks a little english and was absolutely kind and attentive. The food tasted amazing as it was fresh cooked right behind in her kitchen. We enjoyed Tofu meals and the delicious banana flower salad followed by a tasty passion fruit juice. She even called us a taxi and joined us on our way to it with an umbrella because it was raining. Would always come again to this lovely place. :)

Pros: amazingly tasty food, english menu, lovely staff

Cons: nothing!

Good food - Edit

To answer the last reviewer- the restaurant does exist. It's approx. 100 meters further down the road than the marker suggests. There is a big sign, it can't be missed.
Unfortunately we came on a bad day/time, most dishes weren't available, so I can't say anything on the dishes previous reviewers talked about. The things we had were good and prices were good too.
I think it's certainly not the best restaurant in Vietnam ;) but it's a nice spot and the family who runs is is just sweet!

Holy smoke this is the best chay place in Vietnam! - Edit

God bless the person who added this restaurant here. I had the tofu in tomato sauce and it came with rice and beans and soy sauce. It was delicious and so much food that this was my first proper meal in the day at 4pm and still I was full. It was only 1$ (25k dong) for this. Crazy crazy stuff. The owner is super sweet as well.

Pros: Excellent food, Inexpensive

THE BEST CHAY IN VIETNAM - Edit

I created this page because it was hard to find one in Ninh Binh and here the food is so amazing. We stayed with my boyfriend a few days and we ate there all the time. Everything is delicious and very cheap. Ninh and her family is very kind and she offered me a cooking lesson because I went crazy of the stuffed tofu.

Pros: Food, Services, Everything
