Not very impressed

I went there several times as it is close to my office. I was never really satisfied. The food tastes bland and boring. Even the "spicy" dishes have no kick to it.

Pros: Lot of vegan dishes, Quick service, Clean place

Cons: Food tastes bland

Something Different

Having moved location they have also rebranded as just Amrita, the new premises are simple, clean, elegant. The menu is not quite set yet but is aimed more at the locals with set meal deals for 32 rmb. We went on the soft opening night so things were a little unsettled, however the food was fantastic. We had some potato and rice fried pancakes that were so good we ordered another portion. The dumplings are still the same & they are really tasty. The owner recommended a few things that proved to look a bit unusual but tasted great. I will update this review after my next visit when hopefully they are more organised in their new space.

Pros: Vegan, Nice interior and atmosphere

Basically yum

I will start by saying that the name of this place as well as the atmosphere inside makes one think that this is a healthy, zen raw vegan yoga garden or something. That’s not true at all. It’s your standard Chinese veggie fare (with LOTS of of oil used in their dishes). I’m not mad, since the food was good. I ordered broad beans which I always do when I see them on the menu, and this small cold dish was really good. It had dried chilies and an array of beautiful spices but they barely made it spicy, so to me the flavor was perfect. They ran out of black fungus so they gave me another cold fungus dish which was a satisfying alternative. Fresh apple juice was nice, even if it didn’t come out until after I finished two dishes. They gave some complimentary sweet herbal soup which was cool. I’m not sure if that’s something that they always do. The best was the mushroom pie. They have four kinds of pies, each for 15 rmb. It was like a delicious, delicate, vegan restaurant quality version of a pie that you’d buy on the street for 2-3 RMB. It was so worth it, I could eat that pie every day. The host here is really attentive and sweet. The kitchen tried their best to do everything well and timely. I’ll definitely come back.

Pros: Lots of options , Some of the food is pretty inexpensive , Super sweet and attentive staff

Cons: Some dishes seem overpriced, Too much oil in the dishes , Not all vegan, not labeled as such

standard Chinese veg options

Only some of the menu is in English, not all of it, and while I was told later that most of it is vegan, there's no indication on the menu of what is and what isn't. I showed some info from my phone in Chinese indicating that I am vegan to the girl taking my order and she said okay, but she didn't tell me that the sauces that come with both the dishes I ordered are not vegan! Luckily when my food was coming out there was a woman working there who could speak English who came out to apologise for the wait and I asked her just to be sure (they were creamy sauces hence my questioning it) and she told me they're not.

Also, the food you get is not necessarily as in the photos. It actually says that on the menu at the bottom in small print. I ordered a kind of spring rolls which in the photo looks like raw Vietnamese spring rolls, but in reality they have cooked food in a sauce on the inside, and there's sauce on top too! Had I known I wouldn't have ordered that dish. I ate it because I'd ordered it and I was hungry, but I didn't enjoy it.

As others have already said, don't go out of your way to go here but if you're in the area check them out. Also, good to go with a group so you can share and try more items.

Pros: nice to have that kind of option in a mall

Cons: not 100% vegan, menu not entirely in English, food served can be different from in the photos

Good Chinese food

On the fourth floor of a sleepy mall, the decor is casual, the server was friendly, the food came fast, and the food was all good. I give four stars because of my high standards but I think you'll be happy with it. I got the Chanterelle and vermicelli en casserole (good), Kung Pao yam puff (batter fried in kung pao sauce, what could go wrong), Tofu pot in sauces (had an unusual anise taste, not for everyone), and wontons stuffed with shepherd's purse (if you're into wontons, these are big).

Authentic Chinese food

Lovely little restaurant in a mall. The food was delicious and most of it also vegan. Bring some friends so you can try a lot of the dishes.

Good vegetarian food in mall for when in the area

Decent food, humble wait staff, and a slightly cozy atmosphere. Amrita Forest gives the local neighbourhood a vegetarian restaurant option suitable for omni's, vegetarians, and vegans.

Most dishes are pretty usual for a Chinese vegetarian restaurant (e.g. vegan sausage, other mock meats, mushroom dishes). They also have a good selection of noodles, soups, and dim sum options. Majority of dishes are already vegan, and you can always ask for no egg for the non-vegan ones. English and pictures on menu.

The sashimi boat is great for fun and pictures, and extra interesting for those who've never had vegan sashimi before. The restaurant's take on it is interesting, though it probably won't impress too many omni sashimi-lovers. Get it to satisfy your curiosity or to have some fun, but not for taste or to fill yourself up. :)

(Btw, the guy on the boat is Zhuge Liang, and the theme of the sashimi/boat follows stories of him from the Three Kingdoms.)

I also got the pot with vermicelli noodles, mock sausage, and other stuff (sorry, don't rmb the name) was really good! Also got a soup, fried rice, and a tofu wrap spring roll dim sum. All were pretty good! :)

CONCLUSION: Food is pretty good, price isn't too expensive. This is a great place if you want a restaurant that's more sit-down and in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here.

Pros: Quiet , Friendly staff, Decent food

Cons: Nothing too spectacular
