I really wanted to love Amphorae, but it wasn't a great experience

I've been wanting to try the vegan cheese platter at Amphorae for more than a year now, and finally made it to one of their evening events with music, tastings, and cheese platters (with a vegan option). Unlike advertising and photos by the other reviewer, we didn't get any hard cheese slices from Utopi, instead it was quasi-melted versions of the hard cheeses crammed into paper cups and served as cream cheese dips. That was a bit weird and rather tacky for the experience. Combine that with so-so wines, not great music, and being offered a dairy cheese platter 4 times (and asking 5 or 6 times) before finally being served the vegan platter halfway through the event (even though we reserved a vegan platter and specified vegan when registering and when checking in) - it wasn't a great experience. The staff were really friendly and lovely, but the experience feels very commercialized and the vegan experience is just an after thought. It was also super expensive, which can't really be justified in this case. 3 stars is for the kind staff, the beautiful grounds, and the fact there is a vegan option. I wouldn't go back though.

Pros: Utopi vegan cheese is available, the setting and grounds are beautiful, service was super friendly and kind

Cons: vegan platter was lacking and almost didn't arrive, incredibly expensive for what you get, no ambiance

Whoa I’m so sorry for your bad experience!! I visited twice and really enjoyed it, had no problem with vegan orders. So frustrating to see you had such a bad trip there! :(

Leah, were you there on normal days? I'm really wondering if the problem was that we went for one of their music nights and maybe the service is better on a normal day... The place is so beautiful!

Julie, yes, visited twice, I think Friday and Thursday, in the morning. The atmosphere was relaxing and the cheese was served properly (the first visit ordered vegan platter only, the other one both dairy (for the friends) and vegan)

Amazing

We had a great time visiting Amphorae Winery.
Wine tasting included 2 glasses of white wine, 2 glasses of red and a huge platter with 3 kinds of soft vegan cheese, olive oil, dried tomato&bell pepper spread, pesto spread, green olives, lots of fruits and nuts and a fresh baguette. In the end we got 2 extra ports to taste.
All the wine has a Vegan Friendly Society of Israel certification.
Wine and food were simply amazing. The service was extremely friendly.
The price was 140 NIS per person (summer 2021) and you should order vegan platter at least 24 hours in advance. Also this place is quite popular — we visited on a weekday and at 10 am there were about 6 couples, at noon a huge crowd arrived. So reservations required, and if you won’t arrive you’ll be charged 50% (you should provide your credit card info during reservation).
There’s a store you can buy wine, cheese — including vegan one, coffee etc.
The tasting took about an hour and a half, we were full, tipsy and completely satisfied.
