south indian - Edit
my partner and i really liked it here. we’ve never been to a south indian restaurant, so we were surprised to see bread options that we weren’t used to, but all 3 options were completely vegan! we learned that south indian food is typically much spicier, and they didn’t ask us what spice level we wanted. thankfully mine wasn’t too spicy but my partner said his was, and he usually orders medium anyway. the restaurant was cute and the server was really nice and knowledgeable. and the menu is clearly labeled. i got the dal curry (my usual is dal tadka or yellow dal so it was similar). this one had more flavor and veggies and texture than other places we’ve tried, and i really liked it. we tried two of the three breads and one was very soft and pillowy and delicious. i’m glad we went!

My new favorite Indian restaurant - Edit
I've enjoyed Indian food at many restaurants in Philadelphia and southern New Jersey, and I've been very happy with most of them. They offered similar menus, with fairly standard offerings. Then someone suggested Amma's and I was excited to see that the menu was very different. I didn't realize how different the South Indian cuisine would be. The decor is lovely. The wait staff are courteous and eager to please, and do their best to describe the items on the menu. I've been there 4 times in the last 2 months, and I've ordered the same thing each time. It's the "South Indian Veg Meal" which consists of a bowl of basmati rice surrounded by 10 small bowls of "Veg appetizer, main veg curry, variety rice, rasam, sambar, mor-kuzhambu, kootu, poriyal, appalam, pickle, chapathi, and more. includes dessert." I'm still not sure which name goes with each bowl, and each visit had slightly different items, but I've enjoyed all of them. I make sure to say "no dairy" because they're not always sure what "vegan" means, but they're completely accommodating and only serve me vegan items. The food is not for those who don't like "spicy" (which usually refers to heat). I like spicy, so that's not an issue for me. I'm planning to try their vindaloo (very spicy) next time. There's a lot of food, and I always some to take home. Lot
