Wonderful Dining Experience

I was skeptical approaching the restaurant after finding the lights low and it looking closed, but upon talking to Thom, its owner, and finding it open as a 1 woman shop, we proceeded to feast. Thom was wonderful to talk to, the (limited) menu was delicious and priced fairly, and dragonfruit kombucha was delish. I do recommend visiting wholeheartedly 💜 but it may be on limited hours or availability, so walk ins beware.

Delicious, Healthy and Made with Love

The restaurant is run by one person - delightful grandmother Thom, who has been vegan for 10 years, vegetarian for 20 years before that, cooks delicious home made Thai food, some of the best we have tried in Chiang mai. The prices are good especially since it’s organic! Would recommend. Call in advance to check if it’s open and if she has a specific dish.

BEST and most delicious food made with love and organic veggies

Wow. Ama Vegan Kitchen is a *special* place!! She cooks her food with so much love and care. Everything is delicious, fresh, and doesn’t just taste good…it makes you feeeeel good. If we were her neighbors we would be regulars! 😍

Call ahead to make a reservation. She cooks everything herself and needs to reserve the time so that she can accommodate her guests. Highly worth the trip, even if it’s out of your way. She makes her own tempeh (which is stunningly delicious) and uses fresh organic vegetables in all of her cooking. She does everything fresh, nothing is prepped so the food may take a little time (15-20 min?) but is well worth your wait.

We had a salad with tempeh and the red curry with rice. (Total was 200 baht for the meal we shared.) The surroundings are peaceful: lots of plants are growing, cats are napping, and the fresh air is lovely.

12/10, we will come back if at all possible!

Pros: Delicious food made with love (and affordable!), Organic ingredients, Lovely owner and chef

Amazing!!

The food was great, big portions and all ingredients were organic and locally sourced. Her homemade tempeh was one of the best we've ever tasted and is something she can be rightfully proud of. We loved talking to the owner about organic farming in the region and how she made tempeh and kombucha. She's such a sweetheart! This place is a hidden gem that should not be skipped by any perusing vegan!

Pros: Organic ingredients , Sweet owner, Tasty food

Cons: Location, but no problem with motorbike

Best Asian food in Chiang Mai

I have visited this establishment with family friends a few times over the years. There’s a good variety of vegan dishes all prepared fresh. I particularly enjoyed the Burmese tea salad, but all the dishes were delicious and well presented. They may also serve some novel vegan ice creams along with other niche vegan goodies such as local chocolate and cookies.

As this establishment has a staff of just 1 cooker and server, the food is individually prepared with a great appreciation for variety of vegetables and the best ways to prepare them. You will get the home cooked experience rather than the mass prepared generic dishes of the other establishments in Chiang Mai and this makes a huge difference. Unfortunately this reality means that the service is slow if there’s more than a few people present and you have to wait in order for dishes to arrive one at a time - but I’ve never seen this place busy even before the travel and other restrictions.

The venue has fallen somewhat more into disuse over the years such that indoor dining area is now closed.

Highly recommend for health conscious small parties looking for a quiet place to enjoy the best Asian food in Chiang Mai. Prices are modest and portions generous so it’s worth the effort to go out of your way. Beware that as an outdoor only venue, mosquitoes will be present in the evening, so lunchtime dining is preferable.

Pros: freshly prepared, generous portions, low prices, excellent quality of ingredients and preparation, good variety of Thai/Asian dishes

Cons: a little out of the way, not much atmosphere, slow service - just 1 staff

Adorable owner and great food

The lady who runs the place and cooks all the food is simply adorable. The menu offers a variety of Thai/Burmese food. Portions are huge, and the price is unbelievable for this quality (most products are organic) and amount. No MSG, no onion/garlic. The best tofu I've ever tried (it has very different texture from what we usually get everywhere). Homemade tempeh is great too. Not a fancy interior around, but that's not the point of this specific place. The best recommendations for everyone who likes homemade Thai food.

Great food, little bit hard to find

Restaurant is just off the super highway, but you have to walk through the hotel area to find it. Curry was tasty and filling but a bit hot and spicy.

Pros: Delicious food

Cons: Hard to find

Tasty & Organic w/Love

Green curry was huge and includes cannabis leaves, as the family traditional recipe. The multi'color rice was served nicely and they have comfy seats in a quiet area.
The owner is a lovely lady that cooks with a higher purpose to serve a heathy meal with the highest quality ingredients, as noodles for export that are 4 times more expensive and yet, prices are about the same as many other restaurants (average 80THB for a dish).

Pros: Wide menu with photos, Of course, no MSG, Combucha, vegan chocolate and healthy smoothies.

Cons: A bit off town but near Santitham.

Always Amazing

I joined Happy Cow purely to write a review of this really, really good restaurant. By pure luck it was on my doorstep whilst staying in Chiang Mai. So far I have eaten 5 evening meals here, having something different each time. I have not had a bad meal. Each meal is prepared freshly, the food is amazing. Even if it isn't on your doorstep you should try this place.
Be aware that they close at 6pm though.

Pros: Food - really good and fresh, Friendly Staff and owner

Don’t Miss this place

Beautiful vegan kitchen run by a wonderful woman. She works hard to find only the best, local organic and vegan foods. After our delicious meal, I spoke with her for about 30 minutes. She takes suggestions and is all around a wonderful person.

My dad had a massive stroke and I flew out from Colorado to help him. Part of his recovery has been going vegan like me. We have seen significant improvements in his health. We are going around Chiang Mai finding places for him and this is BY FAR my favorite.

The restaurant is located in the back portion of the hotel, with outside seating. DO NOT PASS IT UP!!!!

Pros: Great food and great price. , Locally owned. , Ethically vegan.

Cons: None.

Sweetest lady ever.

The old lady who owns this place is so sweet! She told us so much about MSG and how to avoid it. She has the best ingredients and still keeps it cheap! She said cooks for people what she would cook for herself! She is LOVELY! Pretty sure you can do yoga there too? LOVE IT

Pros: Healthy, All vegan, Good vibes

Affordable Health Kick

Fresh and healthy vegan food - I had the brown rice herb salad, and the tea leaf salad, both tasty and nutritious. Both came to a cost of 175 baht. The rice herb salad did leave me wanting more though, but the tea leaf salad was HUGE. That being said, it definitely doesn’t match the taste or textures of the Burmese Tea Leaf Salads you can get at Reform Kafe/Good Souls/Free Bird.

Nice open-air seating area.

Best food in the world!

Oh my holy Burmese Tea Leaf Salad! That’s all I can say.

I am passionate about organic vegan food, and in Thailand it’s so hard to trust when restaurants claim to be organic. Often upon inquiry they will say “they try to source organic OR local (so many pesticides here)... and most admit to less than 50% organic

Thom, the charming and intelligent spiritual woman who owns this restaurant, not only emanates pure love and passion for organic vegan food, she goes out and harvests wild Cherries herself from the mountains, for her kombucha. She reminds you of the grandma you never had, but always wished you had, a sparkling, bright fairy godmother who was sent to chiang mai just to feed you the best, most flavorful healthy food ever.

My body reacts to non organic food. I get puffy. My digestion slows to a crawl. The first few days I was in chiang mai I tried eating at all the top spots I found online, and all of them bloated me. Then I found AMA

It is no accident that this gem of a restaurant is located next to a wellness resort. This food is clean! I eat here every day, now, won’t even touch other restaurants.

I am addicted to the huge (and mind blowingly delicious Burmese tea leaf salad,,, it is huge enough to fill you up as a complete meal... but since I have to have it every day, I usually order it plus something new on the menu every time, just so I can try it all... and I sit around to wait for my digestion to make room for the “plus”... can’t not eat the Burmese salad every day

The curries and thom kha soup are amazing!!!

For anyone who says it’s expensive - please! Ridiculous! Maybe if you are a broke backpacker trying to live on $3 a day and are eating street food.

But seriously - it’s cheaper than any of the other “organic” vegan restaurants around here. Everything is like $3. For homemade organic food made with love and mindfulness around health... what??? Amazing!!! We are so lucky!!!

I always tip her an extra hundred bhat or so, just to say thank you and help sustain her restaurant , because it’s SO good, and in the states this food would be 7-8 times more expensive.

I wish her location allowed more people to know about her ..but it’s literally only a a $2 cab ride from the old city... there’s no excuse not to come!

I am loyal and devoted to eating here,
And is literally the only spot in town where my body feels amazing afterwards, lean, well digested ... fulfilled by flavor ... she feeds the Soul!

Pros: Truly “Organic”, Homemade, Fantastically delicious

Cons: Nothing

One of the best in town (if you're lucky)

This is one of the best vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai in terms of taste. You can try some local Northern specialties here. Chef is a very nice lady. Don't expect quick service though because the same people cook and serve. Food can be very spicy so specify if you don't want that.

However, there is a problem with consistency.
First, it may be closed sometimes as other people noted so best to call in advance.
Second, sometimes when I ordered delivery the food tasted inferior to usual. My guess is someone was substituting when chef wasn't there.
Last, don't bother ordering via Foodpanda. Many times my order was cancelled after an hour or two of waiting.

Delicious specialties!

I stayed at Trams Wellness Square where Ama is located and tried many dishes.
All of them were great and the lady chef Thom goes the extra distance with flavours.. Fermented rice sauces and multiple organic herbs. Free sweet organic fruits.
Quite probably the best vegan Thai chef in the world and I have been eating vegan Thai for 25 years when I say this :)

Pros: Great range of flavours , Al fresco dining , Organic ingredients and value prices

Cons: Closes at 6pm but will stay open on request

Not Open During Business Hours

The food looked delicious. My wife and I were looking for a place close by and decided on here. We called first, but got a menu that we weren't able to navigate. Happy Cow said it was open though so we took a Grab there. It was closed on arrival but had a sign that said opened at 9am. It was 845am so we waited, for 45 minutes. A few people walked by but never gave hint of opening. Super disappointing. We finally left and went elsewhere. I wish we could've eaten here because the food looked great and they had vegan ice cream! Maybe we'll try it another time, but they'll have to answer the phone first or I won't pay to get a ride there.

(UPDATE:)

We arrived at this place two separate times in person during business hours and there once again was no one there. At this point I would give it 1 star but being a vegan (or even vegetarian) place Happy Cow automatically gives it a minimum of 2 stars. That's a bad system because it doesn't reflect what the customer actually feels about a place and their experience with it. This should be changed.

We decided to give this place ANOTHER shot because it was on Food Panda. Two separate times we ordered and paid only to have the order cancelled 30 minutes later, when usually we should've been receiving the food by then.

I don't know why we even bothered all the subsequent times. I guess it just looks good to us and we wanted to support vegan establishments. But this is just way too much. I don't think there's anything that could get me to try to eat here again. Totally disappointed.

Pros: None

Cons: Not open when they said they were, EVER

I spoke to Ama today about their hours and she says they are open every day except when they spray the area with chemicals. That tends to happen on the first or last week of the month...they can't plan ahead of time. Sounds like you were caught on that day. Consider it a blessing that they weren't open so your food wasn't sprayed.? They cover everything up and take shelter...as we all should. ♥

Amazing food/energy

This place was my favorite so far. The fresh raw salad I had (i think called tea leaf Burmese salad) was amazing as well as the smoothies. The older lady Tom - im probably spelling that wrong, is amazing! Her energy is wonderful to be around and her english is also great. It can be a little hard to find but if you just go straight back and turn left its there on the ground floor. Enjoy!

Can not recommend highly enough

The best vegan food in Chiang Mai and in Thailand. The restaurant is run by a wonderful Thai lady who is totally passionate about veganism concept. She also works as an organic farming consultant and her food is locally sourced and organic. The food itself was delicious, freshly cooked with love and beautifully presented. We have meals there over 2 days and I only wish we could have stayed longer.
The menu is extensive. We have tried Burmese tea leaf salad, Thai green curry, Thai yellow curry, cucumber rolls for dinner and mushroom noodle soup and Spanish “omelette” for breakfast and everything was delicious.
If you are in Chiang Mai, make sure you visit.

Pros: Super friendly owner/cook, Excellent, organic food
