A must try for happy vegans… - Edit
So many times I had passed by this restaurant, but I had never been inside. Yet, the security guard and I would always greet each other as I walked past the restaurant every day. Quite silly, but somehow I thought ‘Always happy’ was a pastry shop, annex coffee shop.
Read moreToday however, I walked in after checking their website; searching for another vegan restaurant in Thamel, Kathmandu. As a happy vegan, you often find yourself, at least I do, returning to your familiar vegan hotspots. Luckily, I still have three more days in Kathmandu, so I can try some other dishes.
My tofu wrap was delicious, as was the vegetable soup. Everything looked fresh and well-prepared. I'm about to dive into my vegan cashew cheesecake right now. I'll keep you posted.
Furthermore, the staff was very friendly (‘of course’ the owners are vegans themself as well), and the garden/terrace where I was seated, was such a pleasant surprise. Cozy and an oasis of calm in bustling Thamel.
If you're a happy vegan and you find yourself in Kathmandu, be sure to try this restaurant. It’s highly recommended.

And happy the food made me.
In fact, it was one of the best vegan desserts I've ever had: the brownie and the ice cream. Both were so perfect in texture and taste, that my brain almost thought it was dairy ice cream. It was so creamy!
The brownie was fluffy enough, not so compact as vegan brownies sometimes are.
I liked that the food was just the right level of sweetness (a lot of times desserts are made too sweet for my tastes).
Nepali prices! Not the Western prices that you find everywhere in Thamel, and thus also not extra high prices for vegan food.
We also took some bites to go: chocolate balls and coconut-lime balls. Both very good, and the chocolate was very rich.
Additionally, we had the opportunity to sample a new cake the creator asked our opinion about, and I liked giving my opinion and possible notes on adjustment.
Excellent service, waiting time and bathroom facilities. Quiet place.
All in all, a perfect experience. Definitely recommend!

You should also check out the surrounding 'mall', it's really quiet and has some cute little shops. 😊

My entire time in Nepal I was waiting to get back home to make a vegan brownie sundae. A little birdie told me about this place and it is the most delicious ice cream and pastries ever. The selection is huge and the savory food is wonderful too. People are super friendly as well.

We came here for a small snack and found this wonderful place with a friendly staff and a warm welcome. We grabbed a few small bites the hummus made fresh was still warm. The Garlic 🧄 tofu had so much flavor. I wish I could make mine like this. The sizzling brownies was put of this world. We grabbed some carrot cake for breakfast and will update the review after that but I sure it 🔥 too. Highly highly recommend they are all plant based with multiple vegan ice cream flavors at least 10

Loved this place! Very compact and still a great variety in terms of the menu (lunch/dinner and dessert)- I had a burrito with roasted tomato, a smoothie, and a scoop of ice cream. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Could also try the sizzling brownie, that was great too.

If you are looking for authentic and excellent vegan food in Kathmandu, this is your spot. Not only Vegan, but Lata, the Manager there, fulfilled all our requests of zero oil, zero sugar (except ice creams) and zero chilli. All items were delicious, prepared from fresh and crispy ingredients. The open and transparent food preparing added assurance of cleanliness and hygiene.

I first came last Oct .Today at new location in Tamel. This place is most excellent. No psuedo Vegan idea like some here. Food is energy filled yummy fresh clean awesome. All ingredients made on location. Highly recommend. Only hesitation is prices a bit high but quality food too.

Fantastic Selection of Tasty Vegan Food - Edit
We visited Always Happy a few times during our visits to Kathmandu, for breakfast, lunch, and sweets, and it never disappoints. The selection is brilliant, the servings are generous and the food is fabulous and fresh. The options to have vegan cashew cheese and a range of plant based milks is great. Highly recommend their burritos, and also their vegan brownies, which are rich, gooey, and indulgent!

Apparently all food is vegan. Perhaps they offer cows milk to make this a Vego cafe not vegan(?). Great place to grab take out rolls, panini’s and wraps. Nice little cakes too. Hot choc was too hot as was soy latte. Kinda watery too but in this town any alternative milk drink is a treat. But yes - that hot plate with chocolate brownie is so good.

Popped to Thamal before we flew home to the UK and decided to check out this fully plant-based/vegan restaurant. A wide range of delicious food including burritos and burgers, cakes and ice cream. The sizzling brownie was so good I nearly cried.

After struggling to find a healthy, clean vegan meal for nearly a week here in Kathmandu, thank goodness I finally found this place. And the staff really is as friendly and bubbly as other reviews have said. The food is gorgeous and the tofu sizzler is so tasty. They serve fresh juice (no sugar added- but ask no ice if you don’t want any). Just in absolute awe. It’s a hot spot for travelers as well. The prices are fair.

The staff are working on either putting a sign or updating their menu as they seemed to not know allergens are life threatening. Thankfully I had medicine and they were really kind in trying to give me things to make me feel better.
Do to their commitment to train their staff better (a server told me there were no peanuts so I kept eating and half way through, asked the manager/owner and the answer was yes!), I will still rate 5 stars, but please please please list your allergens!! I almost died. A vegan place that doesn’t kill other animals, but does kill people would not be IT. 🙏🏽

I usually expect to put down some cash because maybe they have less customers than ones that offer animal flesh and products, but this is so affordable and incredibly delicious and wholesome. Excellent little restaurant on Mandala Street so no awful traffic /pollution. Great varied menu. Super fresh ingredients. I had the burrito (black beans with extra avocado), a huge Mango juice and I had to try the chocolate chip cookie. After weeks trekking this order didn't disappoint and left my taste buds tingling. I highly recommend and will definitely go back to try more.

We went 5 times in our last 2 days. After being sick for a whole week in Nepal it was amazing so find a CLEAN KITCHEN. the owners are so lovely and all the food is to tasty. All vegan, plenty of options, we tried burritos, sandwiches, burgers and sizzlers (pretty much everything lol). Food is fresh and servings are big. Prices are really affordable and the juices (also fresh) are amazing. My fav place in whole Nepal.
