All you need for your vegan kitchen - Edit
For such a small shop, I was utterly surprised at the variety of vegan food staples, and very unique finds (from cupboard essentials to amazing vegan chocolates and treats) I could easily spend an hour examining every single item in this store, loved it!

I love this shop! - Edit
This shop is AMAZING! They have all the things you need for your vegan home from food, drinks, house hold stuff (laundry powder, washing up liquid ect), & bathroom products (soap, sanitary towles & tampons, shampoo ect)! The staff are very friendly & are able to advice on products if you have questions about anything.

Nuts about this place - Edit
Finally made a visit to A&R after all these years. As others have already said, there are plenty of essential vegan items available to cater for your every need, most of which are reasonably priced. We stocked up on tofu and tofrutti from the deli fridge and a handful of chorizo space bars. Location is excellent and right in the centre of town and the staff are really friendly. Will be sure to return again soon.

Lovely Store - Edit
We've been going to Almonds and Raisins for many years including their old location behind Northumberland Street. It's nice to see them doing well in Grainger Market, they have an excellent up to date range of vegan products. Perfect for picking up some seitan mix or some vegan confectionery. I hope they are here for many years to come.

Reincarnated but Always Reliable - Edit
Been going here for years, when there used to be a restaurant attached to the shop that then became a short lived Polish restaurant. They have since moved to the thriving Grainger Indoor Market. As well as a great selection of shelf-based vegetarian and vegan foodstuffs they have a very decent selection of vegan confectionery, pulses and various hard to find cooking ingredients such as seitan (vital wheat gluten) and potato starch flour. They also sell vitamins, health supplements and household cleaning goods. Overall a great effort and wonderful to see it still in business.

Great! - Edit
I had never been to A&R's old location so the Grainger Market stall was new to me. I'd peered through the door in curiosity before but went in for the first time this week. I wish I hasn't waited so long!
Read moreThe shop is absolutely tiny, and appears even more so because it's crammed to the rafters with brilliant things. The most noticeable thing is the huge display of teas, which takes up the entire front window.
For such a tiny shop, they've got a great selection: condiments, snack foods, beans and grains, toiletries and soap, vitamins and so much more. There's a rack of vegan chocolate and treats just inside the door, including the famous Vego bars - I'm looking forward to treating myself to one of those. They also sell things like sprouting jars and seeds for sprouting.
I really reccommend a trip to Almonds and Raisins. I was delighted to find both varieties of Engevita nutritional yeast, which I'd been struggling to find in Newcastle, and I look forward to going back for a proper look. There might not be room for the pastries and things described in the older reviews, but it's still a really fantastic health food shop in a central location.
Pros: Unusual items like nooch and sweeteners, Friendly staff
Cons: Teeny!

Splendid Store - Edit
Having previously lived in Newcastle I just loved Almonds and Raisins to shop in. Whenever I visit the city I usually pop in. The staff are very friendly and helpful but not in your face selling you things. There is a wide mix of items to purchase and they are able to order in what you cannot find.
