Lots of yummy options! - Edit
Well worth the little trek from downtown. Got a Seitan Melt sandwich a variety of pastries to try. All of the pastries were delicious - flavorful without being overly sweet. The sandwich I choose was good (the housemade bread was AMAZING), but a bit on the salty/heavy side - I think this was more about the one I choose though as others seem to have lots of fresh veggies. So next time I go (and there will definitely be a next time), I think a fresher sandwich might have more balanced flavors. Also just a note that there isn’t seating inside, so it’s definitely a grab and go kind of spot.

Best rugelach I’ve ever had - Edit
Great pastries and sandwiches. Would recommend ordering pastries in advance because they sell out! Only downside is the inside is very small and has nowhere to sit and eat.

The seitan melt sandwich was incredible. As soon as I walked in I knew I was going to have a hard time choosing which pastries I wanted. I wish I lived in Pittsburgh so I could come back regularly!

Everything I had was so delicious. The customer service was incredible and the man behind the counter had some beautiful eyes. But no seriously, you have to come here if you are in the area. Tasty sandwiches, amazing danishes and treats. The the bread….. ughhhh the bread!!!! To die for.

GO NOW - Edit
Unfortunately, I don't make it to this part of town too often, but we were beyond surprised when we made a last-minute decision to finally try it out. I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich avocado; every ingredient on the sandwich was to die for. I couldn't believe how realistic the tofu egg was and the homemade sausage was way better than any real sausage I've had. My boyfriend ordered the Seitan Melt and has been begging to go back ever since (he liked it so much, he didn't even stop to take a picture of it!). It definitely hit his "Philly cheesesteak" type itch. We will certainly return even if it means making a special trip way across the city; we want to try other sandwiches as well as order some bread!

I got the seitan sandwich and GOOD LORD it was phenomenal. All the flavors just melted together. And the croissant? So perfectly flaky with the right amount of chocolate.

Incredible - Edit
Pastries and bread are amazing, particularly the cinnamon roll. Also great sandwiches (super filling!) and they often have rebel cheese and house made spreads in cold case! Always look forward to going when I’m in town

Best Bakery in the Steel City - Edit
Dang. I wish we had come here every day of our trip. So many delish pastries, massive sammiches, tons of variety, & locally inspired Eastern European noms. The “Brookie” cookie was maybe the most delicious cookie I have ever eaten. The breakfast sammie was the size of my head, but I still wolfed it down in like 5 minutes. The cinnamon roll was made with light & flaky layers like a croissant!! Really wanted to go back to try the focaccia, bialy, & rugelach.
Read moreThey also have a lil fridge of to-go picnic snackies like fancy vegan cheeses & homemade dips & spreads to pair with their many amazing loaves of bread.
No indoor seating available, so be prepared to sprawl out in the nearby park, or take it home.
Would also love to get an espresso machine up in this joint, but they do have drip coffee to go.
Pros: Top notch pastries, Giant portion sizes, All vegan & tons of variety
Cons: No seating, No espresso (but they do have drip), Closes early

Got a plain croissant and apricot rugelach to eat—both excellent and well-priced! Non-veg partner said he wouldn’t know that croissant was vegan if he wasn’t told… super flaky! We also had coffee with oat milk 👍

The best vegan bakery and sandwich shop in Pittsburgh - Edit
Every bite of their delicious sandwiches, pastries or bread is simply a joy.
Read moreI recommend seitan sandwich ( shaved and roasted seitan with oat cheese, red onions, pickles, roasted tomatoes, sauerkraut and toum). It's an excellent mixture of flavors.
Mushroom sandwich shares almost same ingredients with seitan one. Everything on a fresh seeded whole wheat bread. It's incredibly tasty.
Avocado sandwich is mild but also yummy. Same seeded wheat bread with mixed vegetables, cucumber, red onion, Toum, Tahiti and Shiitake bacon.
As a dessert we tried apricot and chocolate rugelaches. They can't be more delicious 😋.

An absolute gem. - Edit
My wife and I live in California and make a few trips a year to Pittsburgh to visit friends and family. Any time we are in town, making the drive to Allegro is a definite must. I can’t say we have ever had anything from Allegro we didn’t love (and felt the same way when their sister restaurant B52s was around). Our go-to’s are the seitan melt, breakfast sandwich, apple galette, cinnamon rolls, rugelach, cookies…honestly, you name it, it’s probably great. I seriously can’t recommend Allegro enough. One of the best vegan spots I’ve ever been to.

Superb little Bakery/Cafe - Edit
If you’re ever in Pittsburgh make sure you visit this amazing little cafe! The food is awesome—we ordered a Seitan Melt and Mushroom Melt on Sourdough bread and they were both so delicious! The flavors were really good and the portions are huge! You could probably share one sandwich with another person. We didn’t get any of their baked goods but everything looked really tasty. The only downside is that there’s zero seating and we didn’t know so we had to eat in our car. The food comes wrapped in foil and it can get messy! Still, this place was a 10/10!

Fresh & Authentic - Edit
What a gem of a find in Pittsburgh! From ULTRA FRESH croissants, chocolate croissants, raspberry and chocolate rugelach, blueberry danish, tofu sandwich on homemade sourdough, a reuben-esque recreation and a breakfast sandwich with inhouse chickpea tofu slices and homemade sausage. Happy, friendly, welcoming staff with smiles to greet you and the fresh bread aromas fill the entry. Beautiful Eastern European neighborhood just a stone's throw (or drive as you may) from Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh. Go early to ensure they don't sell out of your favorites!

Best cinnamon roll ever - Edit
So so so good. The cinnamon roll is to die for, best I’ve ever had. I’ve heard high praise for the sandwiches and can’t wait to try them. I wasn’t blown away by the chocolate chip cookie but the chocolate itself was fantastic.
