Beer is great, food meh - Edit

Very nice bar with a wide selection of beers. The service is great , but... You shouldn't come here for the vegan burgers (or nachos..). If you are in Barcelona you have so many (better) options for your lunch/dinner. Don't waste your appetite here. Delightful place to grab a beer but that's it.

Pros: Wide selection of beers , Good service

Cons: Burgers are meh, Nachos were old and guacamole rather tasteless, Little bit overpriced

Probably one of the best places in Barcelona - Edit

The location is superb. It's next to the amazing Arc de Triomf and Parc de la Ciutadella, but on a quiet little street. Also the the interior (the tables are in the back) and the waiters are laid back and welcoming.

My girlfriend had the bean burger (6€), I had the beet one (6.25€-ish). They're served with sweet potato fries and vegan majo. Awesome!

They might seem a little bit small at first, but we felt more than well after also drinking a pint of IPA each (6€, I would recommend the small glass with a meal).

I think we both preferred the beet one as the bean one had a smoked taste, but if that's your thing - go for it!

Plenty of vegan options.
Best bang for the buck,
Awesome for a dinner out for budget travellers.

5/5

Great beer - Edit

The highlight of this restaurant was its great variety of traditional beers. The food was ok, not a big fan of the nachos with guacamole though... Did not have that "fresh" feeling you want from homemade guacamole. The restaurant was maybe a little too dark as well.

Pros: Beer

Cons: Guacamole

Good beer! - Edit

I just went here to have a few beers and snacks (twice). Friendly service, and a nice list of tap beers and fridge full of great bottles. Snacks were good too, didn't try the real food but their menu looked nice. Will visit again!

AMAZING vegan burgers! - Edit

This place has amazing burgers and desserts, and the vast majority of the menu was vegan. I went there recently and everything was clearly labeled. I absolutely loved the lentil burger. Service was fast and friendly. So great to see them using vegetables for the burgers instead of tofu. I'd say this was the tastiest veggie burger I tried. Their carrot cake is to die for too!

tasty food & yummy beer in friendly neighborhood - Edit

I live right around the corner from Ale & Hop and yet rarely go there. This is in part because I can't really afford to pay around 6€ for a burger that, while admittedly delicious, doesn't fill me up enough for a meal - the last time I went, I had to order a second one! That said, I do like that it automatically comes with some potatoes (unlike at nearby Cat Bar, whose veggie burger is at a similar price - but also much larger).

I also didn't really appreciate the waiter's response to me asking questions about which items on the menu were vegan. My experience in Barcelona is that restaurants often get it wrong, so it is my habit at non-vegan places to ask a few questions to make sure. Ale & Hop's menu labels vegan options but doesn't have the vegan symbol next to all the burgers, which confused me. Anyhow, perhaps the waiter was just having a stressful day, but I would hope that veg places would be more accommodating of their vegan customers.

The criticisms notwithstanding, I do hope to be able to spend more time here as it is very cozy, the food is good, and there are many new and interesting beers to try.

Pros: 100% veg, no meat, wide selection of craft beers, comfortable

Cons: small portions, low portion/price ratio, few vegan options

Cool little Born spot - Edit

Tucked deep inside the Borne, you'll either have to seek this place out or come upon it accidentally. It's mostly a bar with finger foods and snacks, but the vegan burgers (3 different kinds) are all tasty and recommended. Service can be slow, especially if the staff are chatting with customers, but it doesn't advertise itself as a fast food place and part of the fun is waiting and enjoying the atmosphere. Menu is marked vegetarian or vegan. Open fairly late. Recommended.

Pros: convenient, open late, tasty

Cons: limited selection, occasionally slow service

Nice venue with vegan burgers - Edit

The venue is happening, a great location for a few drinks and a good vegan burger. We had the Mexican and beet burgers and they were both nice, especially the buns! They also came with sweet potato fries which were nice and chunky! I would recommend the sautéed berries and home made coconut sorbet for dessert, it's really good! Great venue and well priced food!

Pros: beer selection, delicious dessert, good vegan burgers

light vegan burgers - Edit

Had the Mexicano vegan burger. I asked for it without cheese or mayo but in retrospect I wonder if those were vegan too. It came with a few sweet potato fries. It was a surprisingly small but tasty meal. Good selection of craft beers. Recommended but it would be cool to have more vegan options.

Pros: some vegan options, cheap

Cosy place for beer and burgers - Edit

Cosy bar where you can also order vegan burgers and some tapas. I had a beetroot burger and I really liked it. Friendly staff who will also help you to choose a kind of beer.

Pros: friendly staff, good value

Cons: small place

Great beer - average burgers - Edit

As per the title of my review, this is a nice place with friendly servers that has absolutely delicious local beers. The burger I ate was average if I was being charitable. It filled me up, was the best I can say about it. By North American standards this was a well below average veggie burger. I had the soy, which didn't thrill me. Great beer though!

Crafty - Edit

Cracking craft beer pub that serves veg & vegan food - burgers, Quesadilles, snacks & dips - the main focus is the huge range of draught and bottled beers from all over the world. The food is positively OK, just what you really expect from a pub. It's freshly made and of a good standard. Sunday brunch looks good. I like beer and I like veggie food so I like Ale & Hop. Correction, I love beer actually!

Pros: beer, staff, Lovely location

Nice vegetarian pub - Edit

I have been here a couple of times and like that there is a new vegetarian pub in the city! They have good vegan options but the last time I was there they were not labelled. Also, the last time I was there they did not have menus for the table, which means that you have to go to the small, narrow, crowded entrance/bar area to read the blackboard and ask which options are vegan. The vegan options I have had have been burgers and falafel which were all very nice. I have been told that they have a nice selection of craft beers but can't vouch for that personally. I did once try to order a tonic water, which they didn't have, so my guess is that beer is their speciality (perhaps there's a clue in the name). The back part of the pub where the tables are is overly bright and doesn't lend to a cosy atmosphere. Despite these minor flaws I would recommend Ale & Hop, as anywhere that has good vegan food and vegan cupcakes is fine with me!

Pros: Good vegan options, vegan cupcakes

Cons: awkward menu layout, vegan options not listed, Not a cosy atmosphere
