Homemade Italian food with tasty vegan choices

Really lovely Italian spot in the heart of Newtown serving authentic southern Italian food with plenty of vegan options, plus extra dishes on the blackboard. We had a great chat with the owner and head chef, who’s from Lecce in Puglia, and he shared that many of the dishes come from his nonna’s recipes. The food feels simple, authentic, and made with a lot of care. Would happily come back.

Good but very limited

This was good, but when asking about vegan options there was one starter (eggplant balls), one main (eggplant parmigiana) or two pastas, one of which was eggplant. So variety was really limited. The pasta was very good though.
Service was fantastic, with an authentic and welcoming feel. By 7:30pm on a Friday it was jam packed with a lineup for more seats. Severely understaffed by this point with two waiters to about 40 people. They did well considering. Probably wouldn't go back based on small menu only

Interesting and different Italian vegan!

I mainly ordered off the special Vegan Chalkboard menu; I got the Polpette di Melanzane (deepfried eggplant balls stuffed with homemade vegan cheese, basil, mint and garlic oil) and the Ciceri e Tria (homemade tria pasta tossed with a chickpea sauce, garlic and chilli oil, topped with deep-fried tria pasta) which were both unique and very different to the usual vegan Italian dishes I find myself eating when at non-vegan restaurants.

Both were filling and quite good! I would have enjoyed more veggies, but perhaps that is because of the kind of dishes that I ordered. The eggplant balls were slightly cold in the centre...however we alerted the waiter who apologised profusely and immediately had them re-made for us. All in all though, I would go again to try dishes I have not yet had!

Pros: Lovely staff, Interesting dishes

Tasty traditional south Italian

Super tasty Italian restaurant with a charming owner. The food is great quality and deliciously prepared. I would suggest you order a starter and a main as a minimum. We ended up ordering the bruschetta instead of a sweet for dessert as we had a craving for savoury and we had been impressed with everything so far and it didn’t disappoint. The service was slow but due to them being busy and possibly understaffed. The portion size was a wee bit small for my appetite also. But definitely going back for more!

Pros: Vegan specials , Friendly owner, Tasty food!

Cons: Slightly small portions , Not much street appeal

Gorgeous place , amaze food but pricey

Due to covid they no longer had a dedicated vegan menu. Maybe they will bring back? Beautiful place with amazing staff and very accommodating to take care of vegan requests. Food was spectacular. Had a vegan ravioli with sweet potato !! Quite pricey though but worth it

Pros: Amazing food , Knowledge & friendly staff

Cons: Expensive

Incredible authentic italian

This should be 5 stars.

As someone who loves authentic italian food, but has had to sacrifice it since becoming vegan - this place is the real deal.

They have a full vegan menu, plus their non vegan menu items are all vegan-able!! Their pasta doesn’t have egg in it, and makes all their dishes flexible (even those with meat can simply have the meat removed).

The owner, Andrea, is awesome. He has come to recognise my Dad who eats there at least once a fortnight, and greets us with excitement when we arrive.

This place is so good. You will have an incredible meal every single time.

Pros: Full vegan menu, Flexible menu items, Authentic italian food

Cons: Literally none

Great Pasta, Friendly Service

The vegan food here is worth five stars! I had a delicious pasta off their standard menu, was worth five stars! The service was friendly and the waiter/owner went to great pains to explain that as well as their separate vegan menu, there were a bunch of vegetarian meals that could be easily tweaked to be vegan. One of those meals was the ravioli my partner had - the filling was completely vegan (and by his account, delicious) and just needed the cheese removed.

Pros: Vegan specials menu, Vegan starters & meals on standard menu, Excellent, friendly service
