Opportunity to taste a lot! - Edit
We ordered the vegan menu and got a platter of starters to share, a rice and veggie main dish with tomato sauce and pomegranate ice cream with fruit as a dessert. It was all really tasty and so much food! We didn't manage to eat it all, so come prepared. It's not cheap but you get good quality food. We sat outside in their little courtyard with a really nice atmosphere, but inside looks nice too.

Sehr gutes syrisches Restaurant - Edit

Online reservieren funktioniert super.
Pros: Gute vegane Auswahl , Tolle Atmosphäre , Super Service
Cons: Ein bisschen hochpreisig

Classy atmosphere, great food - Edit
This is a very nice place to spend an evening with friends and family. The decoration gives you the feeling of being in an Arabic city and the food is very good. Lots of vegan options, clearly marked menu, friendly service.

Vegan high class Syrian food - Edit
We tried the Syrian route menu, which can be made vegan and includes an amazing platter of starters (muhamara, hummus, filled vine leaves, falafel, tabouleh...), a main dish with rice and eggplant. The dessert was a platter of fruits. For us it started of great with the delicious apetizers but then the expectations for the next dishes were not met, as they were not not that special. Especially the dessert was a bit of a let down as I don't try to eat fruit on an empty stomach and the vegetarian/vegan menu mentions ice for dessert. So it might be an idea to just order a mix of the starters to share.
Read moreThe thing is that we expected something more for this price but it is a good option if you are looking for a more fancy place to eat out with meat-eating friends/family.
Cons: best to make a reservation

Elegant restaurant w/ vegetarian and vegan options - Edit
Al Dar ("The House" in arabic language) is a high-class Syrian restaurant in the Center of Hannover, close to the Main Railway station.
Read moreWhile it - like most restaurant - caters first and foremost to meat-eaters, they really do offer a considerable number of vegetarian and vegan options. One of their signature menus is called "Culinary journey through Syria" which is a 3-dish dinner set for around 30 EUR that should give you a good overview of Syrian dishes.
There is a "Culinary journey through Syria, vegetarian style" of which there is also a vegan variety. It is normally available only for 2 persons, but if you go to the restaurant alone, they will also prepare it for one person only. Both menus start off with a plate of mixed starters, then there is a vegetarian or vegan main dish and finally there is a dessert.
I already got a very good impression of the restaurant when I asked the waiter what was included in the starters dish, and he started to list every single dish included, explaining what it is made from and whether it is vegan or not, clearly mentioning the non-vegan options and suggesting vegan replacements. When you think about it, it should be "standard" that a waiter should be able to explain every single dish on the menu, however, only in few restaurants you will normally encounter that.
On top of that, on the new menu, vegan and gluten free dishes are also indicated.
The food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. It is definitely a great place to have a "classy evening" out, as the design and decoration of the restaurant is also very nice and the service is really good.
One thing here - I will not give a 5-cow-rating to any non-vegetarian restaurant out of principle, simply because, no matter how delicious the food and how pleasant the environment, there is a chance that your experience is diminished by having to experience an omnivorous guest at the next table devouring dead animals (or a vegetarian patron indulging in lots of smelly cheese, btw). Having said that, Al Dar came as close to receiving a 5-cow-rating from me as I have ever come to in an omnivorous restaurant.
Definitely a place that you should try out when you are in Hannover and have already tried out all the pure vegetarian restaurants.

Great food! - Edit
The place is not exactly cheap but it's really worth it. At our first stay we tried the "Journey across Syria" in vegan. It was absolutely tasty! Even the "simpler" food as falafel tasted delicious. I can only recommand to you to try it.

Vegans welcome! - Edit
I went to Al Dar at lunch time. They offer a set menu for only 9 Euro. In the evenings their vegan mains are around 14 Euro, so 9 Euro for a starter, main+dessert is pretty good.
Read moreFirst of all I was impressed by how knowledgeable our waitress was. She knew which dishes were vegan and knew the ingredients and therefore made the whole experience very uncomplicated. (As it was pointed out before waiters should know which dishes are vegan and why but I feel like veganism is still a relatively new concept to restaurants in Germany and many waiters aren't familiar with it. Can't even blame them tbh- a friend of mine is a chef and he said out of the 3 years full time training the concept of vegetarianism - let alone veganism- was mentioned once!!)
The food was delicious, I can't even decide what I like best. They use wonderful herbs and spices and the falafel(my main) was the best one I've ever had. I had three different dips/salads for my starter and each of them, including a lovely black eyed beans and spinach salad was heavenly. If you go in the evening and have a look at the menu you will notice the huge choice of vegan starters which are all clearly labelled.
For dessert I had orange sorbet which was also very good.
I can only recommend this place.
Ps. You should make a reservation. It gets very busy.
Pros: wonderful food/lots of vegan choices, knowledgeable and friendly staff, beautiful interior
Cons: serves meat
