A Very Mixed Bag-hl

My affinity with Middle Eastern food, and the cost-effective satiation it provides while also being utterly delicious, led me to this particular Egyptian outfit. Like many before me who had sought treasures from this land, I was betwixt by the promise of riches and ended up feeling cursed by the experience. Ok, perhaps that might be a tad dramatic, but it just about encapsulates my general mood once I’d worked (that being the operative word) my way through the abundance of items that I’d thought prudent to order.
Initially, it appeared as though I had indeed stumbled across a jewel, as the first item I excavated from the stash before me was the really rather good stuffed falafel. Unfortunately, this proved to be the trigger for a trapdoor, as it was pretty straight down from there.
The regular falafels were average and far drier than their predecessor; the moussaka and foul lacked any real taste or seasoning; and the majority of sandwiches were borderline adequate. Even the usually reliable mixed fried plate flattered to deceive, primarily as it was missing a key component in the cauliflower. Oddly though, the pita incarnation of this dish was much better – despite still having its absent element.
Overall, save for perhaps the opening salvo of this meal, nothing really sparked any genuine joy. It’s a crying shame, as I was willing this to be good, but for me, I think I’ll just consign this one to the history books.
