Discovering that a day pass was available to an all inclusive hotel just a stones throw away from my location was almost like a fever dream - unfettered access to food and drink? Yes please!
Arriving well in advance on this restaurant’s opening hours, I made sure that I made the most of the liquid refreshments on offer. By the time the doors swung open and the steady flow of eager holidaymakers began to stream in, I was more than ready to get my fill.
Unlike many other similar buffets across the city, this very much had the feel of hotel dining space - not that this was inherently a bad thing. Indeed, it meant there was a wide range of cuisines, across numerous, well stocked stations, and the service was fast, efficient and quibble-free.
One crucial element that did set this place apart from the standard package holiday establishment (save for the splendid staff) was the food. While ‘fodder’ might be more of apt description of what you may receive elsewhere, here I was pleasantly surprised by the quality evident throughout. This was especially true when it came to the Indian portion of the spread. The aloo gobi alone was impressive enough, but the dal was simply superb - one of the best that I’ve had in a very long time. With the addition soft, supple paratha, and fragrant, salty poppadoms, and it was hard to resist making repeat journeys to this particular culinary corner.
Though, when I did manage to withstand the temptation to dip back into this selection, there were plenty of other wonderful dishes to be found. Key amongst these were the pillowy spinach fatayer, the umami-rich vegetable fried rice, and subtly spicy batata harra.
Entirely worth the price of entry for meal alone, and when you throw in the unlimited beverages, it’s an absolute bargain.
