Best Bakery in Tokyo - Edit

"Der Akkord" is hands down the best bakery in Tokyo. They are all organic, vegan and macrobiotic. They use only whole wheat flour and natural yeast (Tennen Koboki) and do not use cane sugars. If you don't want each of your items individually packaged in a plastic bag (as is the custom in Japanese bakeries), just say "fukuro irimasen".
Their chocolate an pan is great and I have fallen in love with their fruchenbrockt (raisin and walnut crunchy bread sticks) to the point where I have bought their cookbook and make it at home. Their personal apple pies are pretty good too. Aside from being a stellar bakery, they are great people: Very nice and accommodating.

Pros: Great People, Good Selection, Organic & Vegan

Cons: A little pricey (but worth it)

Healthy breads - Edit

This bakery has the healthiest breads and pastries you can find in town. They are made in the macrobiotic style, all vegan, no sugar, no processed foods. Kind of expensive though. The staff is super nice and let's you sample many of the breads. No place to sit inside so more of a take-away place.

Heaven on Earth, in Tokyo actually - Edit

I don't know much about breadmaking, etc. but I can tell by eating the 5 or 6 breads I've bought from Der Akkord that it's pure quality and authenticity. In terms of volume, the breads might seem expensive, but try it once and you'll notice that your jaw starts to fatigue after chewing so much on one single bite. Indeed, this bread is consistent; it has substance. This bread has nothing to do with your standard slice of toast which can be easily compressed into the shape of a ping-pong ball. Der Akkord bread tastes different, feels different, and is sold differently, i.e with lots of smiling and enthusiasm.

Now I must reiterate my opening statement, I don't know much about breadmaking. However, from what I read on their little pamphlet explaining their all natural and healthy method of preparation, I am convinced Der Akkord is in accordance with all aspects of spiritual and gustatory perfection.

Pros: Varied, delicious bread., Heavy bread., Made with love.

Cons: Location insconpicuous., Not a restaurant. Take-out only., A sin if missed.
