Rare Vegan Options - Edit
Akar Cafe offers an all vegetarian menu with several vegan options difficult to find in Indonesia like a middle eastern platter.
Read moreThe falafel, hummus, and pita were surprisingly good and similar to what I was used to at home. The smoothie was refreshing. The samosas however were not as light and flavorful. Instead they were small, crispy, and dense.
Pros: All vegetarian, Great falafel

Fresh vegan food in Lovina - Edit
After 2 weeks traveling through Java we were desperate for some fresh veggies and - most importantly - herbs. Akar Cafe hits that spot. Recommend the oriental plate.

Gute Beratung und klare Auszeichnung, was vegan ist und was nur vegetarisch
Der Pinke Smoothie, die samosa und die middle East Platte können wir sehr empfehlen.
Einfache gute Gerichte
Pros: Leckere Speisen , Gemütliches Sitzen, schönes Ambiente, Für jede Tageszeit und jeden Hunger etwas dabei
Cons: Nicht so ganz billig

One of the only veggie options - Edit
This is one of the only places in Lovina that’s fully veggie, so we did eat here a few times.
Read moreThe food we had was good, especially the spicy noodles.
I just wish there were more vegan options, the majority of the menu is vegetarian with eggs or cheese.

Good dishes - Edit
We ordered the wrap with falafels and hummus and a rice salad with eggplants. Both dishes were good but it's pricey for what it is. We paid 144K.

Nice food. A little pricey. - Edit
Small place, but nice decor. Was a bit pricey for an area that is not a major tourist spot. Some more vegan options would have been nice to see on the menu. Had the middle eastern plate, which was good. Nice falafel.

Great food. Needs more vegan options - Edit
We went here every day we were in Lovina. Great food and smoothies. Just not a ton of vegan options. Felafel plate was amazing. Samosas incredible. “Cookie” was awesome. If in Lovina, definitely go here.

Great food, lovely owner! - Edit
We had the middle east plate and the mixed tapas, which were both delicious! The raw oat cacao almond cookie was a highlight too. Lovely lady, who runs the place. All in all, great experience. We'll be back!

Best place in North Bali! - Edit
Incredible place for a delicious and healthy meal. The guacamole and Indonesian chips were great. Also the middle eastern plate was filling and devious. They have some great desserts on offer too, we tried the mango ice cream, choc cookie and flapjack, all were amazing.

What a find, one of the most satisfying vegan experience we have had. Each dish was so tasty. It was so good we went back the next night. Staff were lovely and for the standard of food it was pretty cheap. Love it wish we could eat here all the time. Thank you Akar

Worth every penny. - Edit
We came here twice and tried 6 different plates. All were amazing. The prices are a bit higher than elsewhere but so is the quality. Plus the staff understands veganism. Everyone is super friendly and the interior is nice.

Lovely setting, great staff. But the best is the food! Ate here 2 days in a row, can highly recommend the falafel, the quiche with different salads, and home made ice cream. A bit pricier than other local places, but SO worth it!

Size of food for that price is ridiculous - Edit
Food is good but the size of the meal and value for money is not satisfying. Paid 20k for the Balinese coffee and 50k for just some fruits with a nut and seed mixture.
Read moreThey are labeled as vegetarian and vegan but are not able to veganize all options although for example pancakes or waffles should easily be possible in my opinion... Would be nice to see more veganized options to make it more inclusive. And it was very annoying that there was an army of flies coming when sitting outside 😅
But the ambiente is quite nice, the staff is friendly and the food presentation is pretty.
Only tried the breakfast so far, might come back for lunch and update my review.
Pros: -nice food presentation
Cons: -too expensive for the size of the meal, -flies everywhere when eating..., -not only vegan/they cannot veganize everything

I ate here 4 days straight! - Edit
The staff are lovely. The food quality is excellent. It’s very well situated for Lovina Beach tourists. I’d come back for sure (and I did keep coming back). ... ps.. I see sometimes people compare the cost of vegan/vegetarian cafes to the prices in local cafes.. I think it’s an unreasonable comparison especially since there is not a high demand for exclusively vegan/vegetarian food in Lovina... Expect to pay more in this place than you would at a local warung but know that there definitely won’t be chicken or other hidden/unlisted surprises in your vegetarian/vegan meal😄..

Best option in Lovina - Edit
I totally recommend going to this place.
Read moretry the Lovina Lotus Smoothy!
Can't recommend the Island Magic though, ingredients are promising, but it's too watery (at least it was at the time I visited in July 2018).
Akar's special salads are tasty.
Indian Dhal and the Chargrilled Aubergine filled with Feta & Chilli are good choices. For the special salads it's a cost effective choice to take the Feta Spinach & Caramelized Onion Quiche, because it comes with 3 side salads of your choice.
Standard coffee is organic and comes in a plunger/french press.
The ice cream is very tasty and portion size is worth the money, just be aware of the cones, they tend to have a hole at the bottom, together with tropical temperatures a messy combination.
The place of course can't compete with the prices of normal Warungs, but you can't get such food, quality and atmosphere in Warungs either. It should be noted that the prices already include tax & service.
As others already stated the portions are not big, so if you tend to eat a lot, expect to buy two dishes.
drinks come with reusable bamboo straws
expect some preparation time for food and of course not every part of a dish is freshly prepared as you order it. They prepare some stuff ahead and store it frozen/chilled to save time which I can't complain about.
Don't wait for the waitress, the layout of the place makes it difficult for them to have you in view all the time, just go to them or call for them.
Pros: Wi-Fi, calm backside area, friendly staff
Cons: no electric sockets in range of tables, Illy Espresso, so it's not organic, offering Pellegrino water seems unnecessary

Tasty but Small Portions - Edit
We've ordered a falafel wrap, it was tasty however we've found the portion very small. Definitely not enough if you're hungry. Also the prices are double if you compare with the other places in the area.
