Read moreDie Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) verfügt nicht nur über eine zentrale große Mensa, sondern auch im gleichen Gebäude über ein rein veganes Restaurant (Mensa-Konzept) namens "Rote Beete". Die Öffnungszeiten sind montags bis freitags von 11 bis 14.30 Uhr.
Die Mensa ist auch für Nicht-Studenten geöffnet, kostet dann pro Gericht/Getränk etwas mehr.
Man kann ein Tagesgericht (Lunchangebot) für einen festen Preis wählen und/oder am Buffet bedienen. Hier zahlt man per Gewicht.
Zahlung ist nur per EC-Karte (oder als Studenten mit der RUB-Mensa Karte) möglich. Keine Barzahlung!
Bezahlt wird an Self-Scan-Kassen.
Es gibt drin und draußen ausreichend Sitzplätze.
Obwohl es die vegane Mensa schon seit Januar 2022 gibt, bin ich erst jetzt dazu gekommen, sie auszuprobieren. 😱

Es war lecker, das Restaurant ist gemütlich und es ist vergleichweise günstig.

Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) not only has a large central canteen but also a strictly vegan restaurant (canteen concept) called “Rote Beete” in the same building. It is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The cafeteria is also open to non-students, though meals and drinks cost a bit more for them.
You can choose a daily special (lunch special) for a fixed price and/or help yourself at the buffet. Here, you pay by weight.
Payment is only possible by debit card (EC-karte) (or, for students, with the RUB Mensa card). No cash!
Payment is made at self-scan registers.
There is plenty of seating both inside and outside.
Although the vegan canteen has been around since January 2022, I’ve only just gotten around to trying it out. 😱
It was worth it! 😍
The food was delicious, the restaurant is cozy, and it’s relatively affordable.

Sehr schöne Mensa - Edit
Ich gehe hier immer gerne Essen während der Vorlesungszeit. Eine gemütliche kleine Mensa sogar mit Balkon. Große Auswahl an immer wechselnden Gerichten plus große Salatbar. Auch die Nachtische sind empfehlenswert.

Inspired vegan dishes for small money, astonishingly good quality given that it’s canteen food. Charged by gram, used to be charged by plate: minus one star for that change I guess. Other than that it’s a wholesome vegan experience – much recommended.

Even though I don’t study or work there I sometimes go there for lunch. You have one dish for fixed price or a buffet with lots of different options between hot and cold to choose from and pay by weight

Als veganer student der Hochschule Bochum ist man manchmal echt aufgeschmissen und dann läuft man gerne auch mal zur roten Bete. Ist jetzt nicht allzu krass von der Abwechslung, aber man kann aussuchen was man möchte wenn man an's Buffet geht anstatt nur ein Gericht 'zu Auswahl zu haben'. Wenn man den kleinsten Teller auch richtig voll packt, dann geht es preislich auch voll.:3

Allergen Labelling Issue - Edit
A bit chaotic and allergens are not clear. I opted on not eating the buffet style food and thankfully so. After going online to look up the ingredients, peanuts was in some of the food that my partner was eating and I almost ate myself. That would have been deathly.
