Fully vegetarian Indian restaurant with peaceful atmosphere

Very nice Indian restaurant in NYC. Completely vegetarian and very vegan friendly (I am mostly vegan), the food was delicious and staff was kind. The atmosphere is calm so it is a nice place to go and have a conversation and taste Indian food. I have been there twice, tried the dosa and also their lunch special (sort of a Thali) and I liked them both. The masala dosa I would have cooked the potato filling a bit differently but that's just a matter of taste

Outstanding vegan Indian food

Many delicious vegan options and beautiful dining space under a huge sky light that you'd never expect from the tucked away entrance. Very reasonably priced and excellent service. A hidden gem.

Below average

Unfortunately ahimsa is not a place I would recommend- the food is slightly below average and the price does not reflect that. Cute place with good concept but does not execute

Delicious and wide range

Clearly labeled vegan options of classic indian dishes, many options between both northern and southern. Food is delicious and fresh. Can't wait to try everything!

Elegant yet not fancy

I am normally not a huge fan of Indian food. However, this place is a standout. I prefer it to the places on "curry hill" (around Lexington and 27): along with Divya's Kitchen on 1st + 1st, this is my favorite Indian restaurant in NYC. The food is delicious and healthy, all vegetarian with plenty of clearly listed vegan items. The wait staff is friendly, and the decor is elegant and roomy, yet not too fancy, and the food is not that expensive.

Pros: Great value, excellent food, lot of vegan options, attractive, comfy setting

Cons: A bit removed from the main NYC tourist sections

Will go back!

I love the name, first of all. (Ahimsa is a principle of non-violence)

Nice atmosphere, great food. The portions are on the smaller side for the curries, but that was fine with me since I tend to over eat at Indian restaurants.

It’s refreshing to have an Indian place that’s exclusively vegetarian and which has a lot of vegan options as well.

Great, affordable vegan and gluten free options

A hidden gem. I was craving Indian and this came up via yelp. It was delicious, reasonably filling, and affordable. One entree plate was $14 before tax and tip. I hope this place stays in business because I came here Friday night and it only had a few tables filled. Check this place out! The servers are super friendly too.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Lots of gluten free options, Really good and reasonably priced!

Cons: Wish there were dairy free desserts
