An unexpected, but very pleasant surprise

PLEASE NOTE:
The pinned location is wrong. I already messaged Happy Cow several times about this as I cannot update it (it has no adress, just coordinates since it is based on the mountain), but they didn't change it.
The correct location is here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/TTri3k6fegpEUhwA8

---------------------------------------

Last weekend I hiked Mt. Makiling (highly recommended, but one needs to apply for a permit upfront, further information here: https://www.facebook.com/makilingcenter/). I had read about coming across vendors during the hike, but that they were pricy, and I didn't expect any vegan options anyway, so I came prepared with toast, peanut butter, bananas and peanuts.

During our break at Aguila Base, a random Filipino guy suddenly invited me to eat some fried banana with what looked like dough around it. First, I politely declined due to my diet, as I expected the dough to be not vegan. He checked with the vendor, and after confirming the ingredients individually (no milk, no eggs, etc.) it seemed fine, so I tried it, and it was pretty good. As was the fresh coconut, which had a nice thick layer of flesh to scoop out after I finished drinking the water.

On our way back we stopped here again, and this time I learned that they also offered vegan spring rolls, which were also very good.

I do not know their opening hours, and I am not sure if there is any way to find out in advance, but my guess is that they must know when the hike is open to visitors, and that they are there every day. So, maybe do not rely on them being there entirely, but if you do get a chance, I encourage you to try their Filipino food while you are there. Check the pictures for the Filipino names of the dishes.
