Hopefully They Will be Back

Love the selection of pies. You would think that they were not vegan as they tasted meaty but really nice.
Additional sides like sausage rolls and deserts are amazing

I'd move to Leigh on Sea for Acorn!

Wow! We enjoyed an amazing dinner at Acorn Pie & Mash. I had the "Chicken" & Mushroom pie, my Omni boyfriend had the "Steak" & Ale pie and we shared the Mac & Cheese. All dishes were excellent - the mac & cheese beautiful, the pies deep filled with gorgeous pastry and out of this world gravy. Finished off by a deliciously light and delicate apple pie. Lovely relaxed vibe in a pretty building, friendly staff and great prices - residents of Leigh-on-Sea, you're a lucky bunch!

Pros: 100% vegan establishment with vegan beers & wines, Delicious pies, excellent desserts , Friendly staff and great prices

Cons: A long way to travel for us!

Spot on

I have frequented this place 4 times now and never been disappointed. The service is excellent with very helpful staff, always catering to your needs.

They have a menu of about 5-6 vegan pies with an array of various fillings. They always have a special as well. You can have the pie and mash with a gravy or liquor. They do also do jacket potatoes with the various fillings if pie is not your cup of tea. As an EastEnder I enjoy a good old fashioned pie and mash, so this place is a great option for me. It is situated right by old Leigh-on-sea town which is idyllic and charming

A choice of deserts are also available as well as a selection of scrumptious cakes. An awesome vegan place by the sea is just fantastic.

Pros: By old Leigh-on-sea town, By the sea, Great service

Cons: None

A vegan delight, near Southend!

Who would expect to come to Southend-on-Sea and find about 6 totally vegan establishments? So many, in fact, that we didn't have time to do them all!

Acorn Pie & Mash is one of them and it is a delight - lovely pies, which appear to be made on the premises, and the obligatory mash with a side of garden peas.
Ample choice of pie fillings, generous helpings and a choice of normal gravy or traditional "liquor" (a parsley sauce).
Traditional P&M, brought up to date in nice modern, spacious surroundings.

Unfortunately, we were the only ones in at the time so the place wasn't buzzing, but the staff were friendly, smiley and knowledgeable.
They appear to be open during day and evening, so I suppose they can't be expected to be busy all the time.
They also have a good selection of local beers and ciders etc.

Acorn is situated just outside Southend, in the little (ex?) fishing hamlet of Leigh on Sea, well worth a visit in itself.

A "must visit" for all passing vegans.

Pros: Great food in lovely surroundings, Lovely staff, Good selection of local drinks

Cons: Sadly empty during out visit

Pie-tastic!

Went with my partner who had steak and ale, and I had cheesey and shared the Mac n cheese. Food was absolutely amazing, staff were helpful and friendly, the place just has a great vibe. Will definitely go back.

Great (almost entirely vegan) place to grab some grub!

If it wasn't for some dairy milk available for coffees and teas this (I believe) would be an entirely vegan cafe and I hope they make that little leap at some stage.

As it stands all the food is vegan and the sandwiches - when we visited - were made to order, really generously filled and very tasty.

We also went a bit off-the-rails and loaded up on other vegan snacks (some crisps, jerky, chocolates) and, despite the blazing Bank Holiday sunshine, I had a coffee too.

The staff were super friendly, chatting to us about an upcoming vegan festival in the area, and it's got a lovely set-up and I can imagine it being a nice place to eat in (though due to the aforementioned weather we took our food down to the seaside).

Really recommend making this your stop for lunch if you're having a day at the beach!

Pros: Generous and tasty sandwiches, Great range of other snacks, Also good for vegan food shopping

I work here and just thought I'd let you know we made the change to full vegan and ditched the dairy :)

Delicious and satisfying food and good hot drinks

A few steps up from Old Leigh. Corner café offers sandwiches, pasties, jacket potatoes, soup & granary bread and cakes, coffees and teas. On my first visit, I enjoyed the jacket potato topped with veggie chilli. On the second, after a decaf-oatmilk-latte, I had the salad of the day, a large plate full of goodness, including blueberries and grapes, homemade slaw, hummus, avocado and a generous dollop of the sandwich filling of my choice, the chickpea tuna. Beautiful salad, delicious and healthy food. I also brought home two pasties to warm up later: nicely wrapped, labelled and boxed cheese-and-onion and Cornish, both delicious. The food menu is all vegan, but they offer cow’s milk. Very pleasant service. There are some shelves with food products, treats, condiments, pasta, whipped cream, a chilled section with cheeses, meats, hummus, etc., and a freezer with Fry’s and other products.

Pros: Delicious, satisfying food, pleasant service, all-vegan menu
