Has potential, needs improvement. - Edit
Full disclosure: I’m a picky açaí eater! Having had some of the best stuff in Brazil, it’s always hard for me to find anything fantastic in the states. With that said, here is my Açaí Fresh story and review:
Read moreI went in and wanted to make sense of what was vegan or not. As of right now, their menu has multiple labels (Vegan, GF, etc) but doesn’t actually utilize them anywhere. So it’s just an unused legend as far as I could tell (as well as the employee who was working there). You’ll also not find any labels on their website, so here’s everything you need to know…
The employee was nice and tried his best to help me navigate things. He explained most (if not all?) of their items come with honey, but he can exclude it. (And use agave instead if anyone wishes) He also mentioned the açaí itself is made with apple sauce/juice. And they have a choice between gluten free and non-GF granola - luckily both are vegan! The choco chips are not vegan.
One important thing: when he brought out my bowl he informed me that it turns out the almond butter is made with honey (weird…) and he offered to give me Peanut butter instead.
The bowl was…..fine. Flavor was decent, but full warning: this is a heavy bowl. I have a feeling there’s a lot of added sugar in these bowls given how full I felt.
So to order vegan here:
- Ask for no honey
- Avoid choco chips
- Avoid almond butter
Pros: Refreshing, Fun location , Gluten free granola
Cons: Poor labeling , Non-vegan almond butter
