Kind and accommodating owner.

We loved it here, we return three times in our travels. There is a vegan menu! However, there seems to be some misunderstanding about the differences between vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian (so some of the items on the vegan menu aren't actually vegan). You will have to be clear and specific about your diet, stating that you don't eat eggs, oyster sauce or fish sauce, etc.
However, the owner is kind, very accommodating and she made meals suited to our vegan diet. When she couldn't make one meal vegan, she asked us if we would like the vegetables from one dish with the sauce from another, so that it could be vegan for us, she also gave us a grapefruit and a bottle of water for free! We thought this was so sweet; we even tried to tip her for her fantastic service, but she refused and said that she'll just remember the gesture in her heart. Food is yum and the only option in the area, we were happy 😊

Very friendly and great veg options.

Food was well described, not sure if fish sauce was omitted. Didn’t taste fishy.

Great food, but be careful to specify ingredients

Ordered from separate vegan menu: Fried Rice, Pad Thai, & Red Curry. Chef came out to say Red Curry contained fish sauce, so we changed order to Green Curry. Food was great and would actually be 5-star if we had more confidence in their understanding of vegan. Suggest when placing the order you spell it out by saying no egg, no fish sauce, no oyster sauce just to be clear. They then seem to be careful about ingredients. Not much else vegan happening in Carnarvon so maybe push through and eventually have a great meal. Would certainly eat there again.

Pros: Separate Vegan Menu

Cons: Still must check with staff to ensure vegan

Genuine misunderstanding

They do not offer vegan options.

I think it is a well intentioned honest mistake but they do not offer any vegan options. Everything has some kind of fish or oyster sauce in it at least.

I think they are confusing vegan with vegetarian and that some “vegetarians” are confusing vegetarian with pescetarian/omnivore. The owner told me that she was told fish is okay.

If this is your business I recommend you have a read of the Vegan Society’s definition of veganism and have a look into some vegan substitutes for fish and or oyster sauces. Ayam’s vegetarian oyster sauce is apparently vegan, and Niulife Cocomino Vegan Fysh Sauce. But there are many other brands offering vegan sauces. Alternatively, please stop advertising as vegan.
