Truly Exceptional Vegan Culinary Experience in Porto

This was, without question, one of the most memorable meals of our trip to Portugal. The fully plant-based Portuguese tasting menu was a masterclass in culinary creativity—each dish thoughtfully crafted with passion, authenticity, and an incredible attention to detail.

From the welcome sip of Ferreira port (one of Portugal’s few Portuguese-owned port houses) to the final bite of their award-winning nata, the entire experience was unforgettable. The four starters—vegan codfish cake, fish açorda, Algarve-style carrots, and mushrooms in coriander and lemon—were beautifully balanced and full of flavor. Fresh bread accompanied these vibrant small plates perfectly.

The main dishes truly impressed: a comforting, balanced seafood rice and a rich, plant-based take on the iconic Francesinha that was nothing short of perfection. For dessert, the layered biscuit cake had lovely hints of coffee, and the airy, whipped “Heavenly Cream” was exactly that—divine. We were also lucky enough to try their vegan nata, and it absolutely lived up to the praise: silky, smooth, and utterly delicious.

Beyond the food, the service was warm and genuinely enthusiastic. The staff took time to explain each dish and share their deep love for Portuguese cuisine, which made the experience feel even more personal and special.

Every course reflected not just technical skill, but deep care and love for both the craft and the culture. I only wish I lived in Porto so I could return again and again. A must-visit for anyone who values food made with heart.

Pros: Authentic Portuguese flavours, Beautifully crafted dishes made with passion, Warm, knowledgeable staff

Dear DMGrant,
Your words truly touched our whole team! Thank you for such a thoughtful and generous review — it means the world to us to know that our Portuguese vegan tasting menu made such an impression on your trip.

Every detail you mentioned — from the açorda to the heavenly cream — is a tribute to our love for this cuisine and the belief that tradition and plants can go hand in hand. We're so happy you felt the care we put into every dish (and that our vegan nata lived up to its reputation! ).

We’d love to welcome you back anytime — and until then, thank you for sharing such kindness. You're always welcome at our table.

Warm hugs from Porto,
The Padoca team

A must-visit for all vegans 🌱

I remain thoroughly impressed by the fact that everything here is entirely vegan. For any vegans exploring Porto, this establishment is a must-visit. Be sure to sample their "pastel de Nata" and "quindin" – both are exquisite. The coffee is also quite enjoyable (words from a coffee snob). With outstanding service and an overall delightful experience, I am eager to return and bring along others to share in this culinary delight.

We had an Easter Brunch that included vegan versions of traditional Portuguese dishes. It was so delicious and thoughtfully put together. The service was kind and attentive. We were SO full when we left, but we will be back to the try the pastries. 100% recommend!

outstanding house-made goods 🥰

A little late with my review, but I can’t recommend this lovely place enough. Went there almost every day during my stay in Porto to eat my way through their delicious dishes and pastries (and for those little chats that always brought a big smile on my face). Such a blessing, thanks a lot!
And I mean - look at this

Pros: loveliest owner and staff 🫶, my personal pastry heaven , finally good portion sizes lol

Cons: the drinks menu could be improved

Her warm and welcoming demeanour adds an extra touch of joy to the already delightful experience. The variety of flavours at A Padoca is simply outstanding - from the refreshing red berries to the comforting coconut and almond croissants. And let's not forget the vegan version of the iconic pastel de nata, a guilt-free indulgence that surpasses the original in taste and quality. The bolo de arroz and other Portuguese classics made vegan are a testament to Catia's creativity and dedication to providing delicious, cruelty-free options. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite to go or settling in for a nourishing bowl, A Padoca's cosy atmosphere and nutrient-packed offerings make it a must-visit spot in Porto. Thank you, Catia, for creating such a haven for plant-based food lovers!

Can’t miss this amazing place!

There’s so much to say about this place! First off, the case of baked goods. OH MY! we tried the vegan Nutella croissant. It was out of this world. And we both had the Benedict. Incredibly delicious and I will be dreaming about this food when back in the states for days to come! It can be a little tough to find with all the construction going on. But do not give up! Bonus: we got to choose a chocolate of our choice upon leaving!

Pros: Incredible food, Baked goods, Service

Insane plant-based pastries, delicious brunch!

Wow, wow, wow. The pastry case here is a wonder to behold. The vegan pistachio croissant, pastel de nata, and napolean are all faves. But everything I've sampled from the case is delicious (and hard to tell it's vegan).

The savory dishes here are delish too. The vegan eggs benedict is rich and delicious, enough to sate even the hungriest belly. Some of the other treats I've tried are great as well, but TBH the benedict holds my heart.

Coffee is excellent, atmosphere is great, and the mosaic on the wall is adorable. Alongside the genuinely wonderful staff, it all comes together to be a great experience. This restaurant works for omnivores and vegans alike, even though it's 100% plant-based. Strong recommend.

Pros: Croissants, Pastel de Nata, Pastries

Best vegan nata in Porto!

We just had the MOST delicious brunch. Our (large) group tried a variety from the menu and everything was perfect. I tend towards savory brunch so my favorite is the Benedict with house-made "eggs" and rich hollandaise. However, I got to try the french toast, chocolate pancakes, curry, avocado toast and many of the pastries from the case and each bite was a delight. The portion sizes are SO generous and they even have house-made plant milk for their beverages.

A Padoca also has an online market for takeaway of their larder items like cheeses and butters, grazing boards, breakfast baskets and more. Check it out here: https://apadoca.pt/

Pros: 100% plant-based menu, Delicious food, Wonderful service
