Truly Exceptional Vegan Culinary Experience in Porto

This was, without question, one of the most memorable meals of our trip to Portugal. The fully plant-based Portuguese tasting menu was a masterclass in culinary creativity—each dish thoughtfully crafted with passion, authenticity, and an incredible attention to detail.

From the welcome sip of Ferreira port (one of Portugal’s few Portuguese-owned port houses) to the final bite of their award-winning nata, the entire experience was unforgettable. The four starters—vegan codfish cake, fish açorda, Algarve-style carrots, and mushrooms in coriander and lemon—were beautifully balanced and full of flavor. Fresh bread accompanied these vibrant small plates perfectly.

The main dishes truly impressed: a comforting, balanced seafood rice and a rich, plant-based take on the iconic Francesinha that was nothing short of perfection. For dessert, the layered biscuit cake had lovely hints of coffee, and the airy, whipped “Heavenly Cream” was exactly that—divine. We were also lucky enough to try their vegan nata, and it absolutely lived up to the praise: silky, smooth, and utterly delicious.

Beyond the food, the service was warm and genuinely enthusiastic. The staff took time to explain each dish and share their deep love for Portuguese cuisine, which made the experience feel even more personal and special.

Every course reflected not just technical skill, but deep care and love for both the craft and the culture. I only wish I lived in Porto so I could return again and again. A must-visit for anyone who values food made with heart.

Pros: Authentic Portuguese flavours, Beautifully crafted dishes made with passion, Warm, knowledgeable staff

Dear DMGrant,
Your words truly touched our whole team! Thank you for such a thoughtful and generous review — it means the world to us to know that our Portuguese vegan tasting menu made such an impression on your trip.

Every detail you mentioned — from the açorda to the heavenly cream — is a tribute to our love for this cuisine and the belief that tradition and plants can go hand in hand. We're so happy you felt the care we put into every dish (and that our vegan nata lived up to its reputation! ).

We’d love to welcome you back anytime — and until then, thank you for sharing such kindness. You're always welcome at our table.

Warm hugs from Porto,
The Padoca team

Incredible food and staff!

Being a bit shy in a country where I don’t speak the language, the staff at A Padoca were extremely kind and welcoming- even when I came in 40 minutes before closing they let me sit down and enjoy my meal! They offered a complimentary bread and jam which was so delicious! My entree, their famous eggs benedict, was truly like nothing I’ve ever had. Somehow, under the decadent portion of hollandaise sauce, the toast was crispy and caramelized! The “bacon” added a smoky note and was truly some of my favorite vegan bacon I’ve ever had.

Now, that’s just the food! Upon leaving the whole staff wished me farewell and cheered hearing I found them through Happy Cow and I purchased some Nata to go- because it was the end of the day they threw in some bonus treats! Truly made me feel so welcome. Thank you for having me!

Pros: Super kind staff, Gifted appetizer , Amazing food

Un…believable

Don’t come here, unless….you want your mind to explode!
Everyone knows that the pastel de nata here are the best in Portugal, which really means in the world. And only as a side note I add that they’re vegan! As are all the rest of the offerings in this piece of heaven dropped in the middle of one of the grandest cities in Portugal. I was nearly about to cry when I got the first bite of these creamy, flakey, crunchy bite meant only for the gods.
We also tried the customary avocado toast and the incredible eggs Benedict. Not wanting the bliss to end we also purchased some pastries to take away that are only going to be delightfully consumed later tonight to bring us back, if just for an instant to the joyous moment we experienced earlier today.
If you’re in Porto you got no excuses.

good afternoon,

I'm sorry that at the time of the service you didn't explain the situation, the establishment would have had the opportunity to create something that was to your liking.
opting to share the same situation twice on happy cow.
Regarding the price, they are listed, you were not caught by surprise. Thankyou

Gorgeous

Very stylish cafe/restaurant not far from the Crystal Palace gardens. The portions are enormous and absolutely lovely. Nice to have a variety of healthy tasty vegan food. In retrospect we could have shared one meal it was so large but anyway it was worth it because it was delicious. For me the nicest vegan eatery in Porto. Didn’t try the cakes but they looked superb and there was a huge range. Didn’t get our waiters name but a really attentive and nice guy. Put this place on your list it’s great.

Pros: Really interesting diverse menu, Unbelievable milkshake , Huge portions

Cons: Nothing
