Vegan Portuguese bakery - Edit
Well, I found this because, in Maia, there is another place called Padoca.
Read moreThis one is called “A Padoca”. They are different places, and I recommend both.
If you are curious, Padoca is slang for “Padaria” (Bakery) in São Paulo/Brazil.
Let's talk about this place: they create a traditional Portuguese bakery.
Portuguese bakeries are famous worldwide; unfortunately (for us vegans), most recipes use eggs and milk.
And for our luck, the best city in Portugal (Porto) has a “traditional vegan Portuguese bakery” - if something like this exists.
You will find traditional items, and this is amazing because besides vegans, or people with lactose or eggs restrictions can have some of the Portuguese delights.
It’s definitely on my list of mandatory places to visit in Porto now - even if just for a Pastel de Nata :)
In addition to this, the service is excellent. Porto is on another level in terms of nice people.

Incredible food and staff! - Edit
Being a bit shy in a country where I don’t speak the language, the staff at A Padoca were extremely kind and welcoming- even when I came in 40 minutes before closing they let me sit down and enjoy my meal! They offered a complimentary bread and jam which was so delicious! My entree, their famous eggs benedict, was truly like nothing I’ve ever had. Somehow, under the decadent portion of hollandaise sauce, the toast was crispy and caramelized! The “bacon” added a smoky note and was truly some of my favorite vegan bacon I’ve ever had.
Read moreNow, that’s just the food! Upon leaving the whole staff wished me farewell and cheered hearing I found them through Happy Cow and I purchased some Nata to go- because it was the end of the day they threw in some bonus treats! Truly made me feel so welcome. Thank you for having me!
Pros: Super kind staff, Gifted appetizer , Amazing food

Un…believable - Edit
Don’t come here, unless….you want your mind to explode!
Read moreEveryone knows that the pastel de nata here are the best in Portugal, which really means in the world. And only as a side note I add that they’re vegan! As are all the rest of the offerings in this piece of heaven dropped in the middle of one of the grandest cities in Portugal. I was nearly about to cry when I got the first bite of these creamy, flakey, crunchy bite meant only for the gods.
We also tried the customary avocado toast and the incredible eggs Benedict. Not wanting the bliss to end we also purchased some pastries to take away that are only going to be delightfully consumed later tonight to bring us back, if just for an instant to the joyous moment we experienced earlier today.
If you’re in Porto you got no excuses.
