Hidden gem

I really want to give this place 5 stars, especially for the cheese plate and desserts. However, the apps and entrees are a bit bland. I really appreciate that the chef uses fresh, local foods, and few meat substitutes, but after eating here many times, I think I finally figured out that most of the dishes could be improved with a splash of citrus or vinegar to bump up the flavor. Recently, a shredded Brussels sprouts Caesar salad was the perfect combination of crunchy and creamy, but was unfortunately lacking the bright tang of lemon. I recommend it anyway; the place is great and seriously, the cheese plate is worth a visit alone.

Surprising gem in Central CT

Hidden down a side street, 21 Oak is a warm, inviting restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. My wife and I ate lunch recently. Her Sweet Potato Scallion cakes were rich, warm, hearty, and well spiced - a true star of our dining experience. We will be back to enjoy it again in a heartbeat. I started with a Navajo chili, which I would definitely order again and a Sicilian flatbread that, while good, was the weakest plate. It's hard to contend with the sweet potato plate! The chocolate caramelized banana for dessert was a perfect note to end on with an almond milk latte. We will most certainly be back for lunch or dinner. Excellent spot and highly recommended!!

Great creative food!

I love the foods at this place. Plant based, not a lot of fake meats, and incredibly creative. New and unique flavors that you don't find at all other vegan places.

Delicious Vegan Meal for 6!

Have to say that the meal we had was absolutely delicious, and the price for four adults and two children worked out at a reasonable $12 each. Portions were good. Food quality excellent, expertly prepared. Service and ambiance were also good, making the whole experience enjoyable. A big sheet of drawing paper on the table plus high quality crayons for drawing while waiting was a big plus for the kids and helpful for the adults. I liked the sauteed Brussel sprouts, and the Peruvian roast potato soup (one of the day's specials), both for being tasty and for having no or few onions (I'm not a big fan of onions and it isn't easy to find vegan meals without them). Overall this was a great first time visit to this valuable resource for this part of Connecticut. Our son and daughter-in-law will be eating here again (they are local, we're just visiting). I personally hope this venture is very successful and is a permanent fixture for Manchester, CT.

Pros: Expert chef and friendly staff, Wholesome ingredients, tastily prepared, Vegan
