Great Veg Place for a Special Occassion
30 Dec 2010
We've known of Fatty's for a while, but until their $4 chilli bowl during happy hour, we stayed away due to their prices. Well, their happy hour got us through the door, but we enjoyed a great meal from the full menu.
You can not fault the food at all, their selection may not be large, but everything from taste to presentation was excellent.
If you're looking for a nice place for an evening out, a celebration, or a venue with a great atmosphere for drinks and desserts, this is the place. If budget is not a concern, eat here often!

Veg Friendly and Very welcoming
31 Aug 2010
While this store sells the full range of meat products, they are wholesome and mindful to offer only the best and purest of all ingredients. Their cucumber/avocado sandwich is one of their vegan options and it's a very filling, and satisfying option. Ask them about their coconut shake too - it's a hit!
The staff are friendly and will find out anything you ask them to make sure your meal meets your dietary requirements.

The Little Sister

RFD in West Hollywood is amazing, so when I was in Santa Monica, I expected the same from this place. While the food is of the same standard, the setting lacks something and I feel the price tag, while worthy at the other location, left me feeling like I deserved more at this location.
The place is always busy, a testament to the good food, but for the real "Real Food Daily" experience, head over to West Hollywood (414 N La Cienega Blvd, 310-289-9910) and make an evening of it!

What a find! My new favorite place in the LA area

If you're looking for an earthy, crunchy place for a slow paced Sunday lunch, or an evening out, this is THE VENUE. The food, while limited to soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers, is out of this world, and there's something very rustic and homey about this venue.
There is street parking and they are open from 11am - 9pm.
The service wasn't very fast, but I didn't feel it. This venue has a charm that lets you get lost in the moment, and the food was worth the wait. The staff are friendly, smiling, and there to help the customer.
This is everything I am looking for for a favorite place to eat.

Great Tasting Vegan Fast Food
27 Aug 2010
This place certainly delivers on it's promise of Vegan Fast Food, their burger menu is complete with bacon cheese burgers, pesto burgers and cheese burgers. The chilli cheese fries were amazing, and they know what they are doing. Their main selling point is their burger menu, and they seemed to have a wide selection of vegan desserts too, as well as some raw platters - so they cater for every niche.
The parking is excellent and it's so close to Balboa park, you can take you food across the street and have a picnic if you like. This place has a vibe that reminds me of Empire Records!

VERY friendly staff
03 Sep 2010
This place is a little basic, the setting isn't somewhere that you'd go for an occasion, rather a place for a quick dinner if you don't feel like looking. The food is very flavorful and the staff are the friendliest restaurateurs I have encountered in a very long time.
They noticed that this was our first time and were very welcoming, there may have been a little language barrier but we made it work.
This is the first place I have eaten that has such an extensive range of mushroom dishes, and I must say, I loved them!

Friendly, good food and a great setting
20 Aug 2010
Not only is this set in the awesome heart of Pasadena, the food is amazing. Their new lunch special (until 2pm) is just $8.50) and I love their chow mein, vegan meatball sub, and their tofu curry.
Whoever they have in the kitchen knows exactly what they are doing, and the staff are warm and inviting.
I'm a big fan and this completes a visit to Pasadena every time.

This place is ok, but if you're in Pasadena it's worth making sure you check out Green Earth Vegan (Fairoaks and Colorado).
This has a diner-style feel to it, the menu is extensive but nothing jumped out at me, they have lots of soy-based meat alternatives and lots of different sauces. The service did leave me wanting more.
All in all, it was a nice change of scenery, but I'm not rushing back here.

Excellent, inexpensive dining
23 Dec 2010
A nice place with something for everyone on the menu. Ask about their daily specials. My favorite dish is the "Soul Bowl", brown rice with fresh vegetables, vegan southern fried chicken and corn bread, served with a ranch sauce. I always end the meal feeling healthy!
The food is excellent, when they are busy the service suffers, but the environment is good, so with good company you may not notice the wait.

This is how it should be done!

The first time we ordered take out from this place we called five minutes before closing and just took their recommendation as time was short. Not only did they keep the doors open an extra 15 mins for me to collect the food, but every dish is superb. I have never been disappointed and we're slowly working our way through the menu.
If you eat in, their soup bowl is huge, their portions impress and the taste is excellent. They currently have a $5.50 lunch special too (until 2pm).
The staff are friendly and polite, and while the decor isn't really my taste, they have put a lot of thought and effort in to this too. This is an affordable dinner venue and leaves me smiling every time.
Ask them about their customer loyalty program too, if you become a regular, like we did, the rewards will quickly add up!

Awesome Dining Experience
20 Aug 2010
RFD provides an outlet for vegans foodies that miss their meat. Their Nachos with Cashew Cheese and Vegan Ground Beef are a treat, and they add to their menu with weekly specials which are always going to delight any audience.
While this restaurant is not inexpensive, the dining experience and setting makes it worth every penny. Expect to pay at least $25 a person. If budget is an issue, keep this place in mind for a special occasion.
Set in West Holywood, this is well worth a visit.

Nice dining experience

This place is nice, feels like a fast food place, and the sweet potato fries are amazing. I liked our meal, but if I was in the neighborhood, I'd consider trying other places again before rushing back, the menu isn't that extensive and I feel like I've tried it all.
