Fine dining with veggie choice

14 May 2015

Abbie's Kitchen is located in a pleasant, quiet and elegant house. The chef is very capable, and always offers a vegan or vegetarian choice of entrees, a welcome option in Cottonwood. The vegan meal I had, a grilled vegetable and tofu napoleon, was well prepared and presented. Service was attentive and gracious. This is a welcome dining addition to Old Town Cottonwood.

Good choice

17 Jun 2015

Cafe Aladdin is part of a small chain of 3 restaurants serving Greek and Mediterranean food. The menu has the typical felafel, hummus, pita etc. Vegan and vegetarian items are marked on the menu. The food is decent. We had the Vegetarian and the Falafel Combo Jumbo sandwiches. Food was good. The zucchini was very tasty (but deep fried). This restaurant is not a bad option in a challenging region for vegetarians.

Delightful, delicious

01 Feb 2014

Angelica Kitchen is reliably excellent. The specials are well done and varied. The ambiance is comfortable, service is good. We had two special entrees: the Franken-Thyme (vegetable cakes with accompaniments) and the Edgar Winter Savory (a dishless cassarole), as well as the Ole Man Seitan. All were delicious. We had an interesting appetizer - the People's Polenta - which also has a charitable component. Desserts were a flavorful banana pudding sundae and a bland peach kanten parfait. Dinner was totally enjoyable.

Organic, vegan friendly

12 Jul 2013

This cafe offers a typical Indian menu, but is organic and has the vegan choices clearly marked. The setting is pleasant, with outdoor seating as an option. Food is good. I tried this restaurant while visiting Point Reyes National Seashore. It was by far the most convenient vegan friendly restaurant to Point Reyes.

Great neighborhood veggie restaurant

06 Mar 2012

I've been here many times and have always had an excellent experience. The food is quite good. The service is excellent. The fixed menu is not always all vegan, but they will make a vegan substitute for any non-vegan dish. It is a very soothing and comforting place.

Pleasant vegan restaurant

07 Apr 2012

A nice pleasant place to have a vegan meal. Ours was gluten free. There are a lot of gluten-free choices. We had the hot and sour soup, which was good but a tad sweet. Overall excellent.

Fine choice in a tough neighborhood for vegans

10 Feb 2015

This Bareburger is in the financial district. In this neigbhborhood, other than some ethnic restaurants that offer vegan fare, and a very few vegetarian restaurants, there are few vegan friendly restaurants. So this place is a welcome option, as long as you can tolerate the burger joint ambiance. The vegan burgers were fine, service is friendly and quick.

African vegan options

12 Jan 2013

This restaurant offers very good vegan food with an African flavor. I had the Yasa with cous-cous. It was quite good. Service was excellent.

Pleasant vegan shushi

11 Aug 2015

This small restaurant offers a nice selection of vegan sushi and related foods. Taste and quality were quite good. We had the crunch n munch roll, nutty buddy wrap, and the salad of the month, plus several desserts. The selection of desserts were very appetizing. There is limited seating, a fast food setup. An excellent vegan eatery.

Fast food, take-out

18 Jun 2014

This small restaurant is part of the growing Blossom chain of fast food vegan offerings. There are no tables, only counter space for in store dining, not that dining in is that pleasant - the music is loud and the ac weak. The food though is good. We had the philly cheese steak sandwich, midtown melt and un-chicken avocado griller. The cheese steak was substantial. There are plenty of mock meats, seitan, tempeh, and vegan cheese etc on the menu. While sandwiches and wraps are a mainstay, there are gluten free variations. Overall, this is a good choice for casual vegan dining or take out in midtown.

In the Buddha Bodai tradition

04 Feb 2016

The food is what I expect from a Chinese vegetarian restaurant. The menu is similar to the other Bodai's. We had some of our favorites here: sauteed pea pod leaves, taro fish, braised tofu skin and vegetarian mushroom duck. The dishes were excellent. An enjoyable dinner.

My favorite Chinese vegetarian restaurant

06 Mar 2012

This is my favorite Chinese vegetarian restaurant. I go there frequently. The food is always great. The space is comfortable. There are so many choices, it is hard to choose what to order! Have never been disappointed.

A different Buddha Bodai

15 Jul 2015

We visited this restaurant recently. It is new, but has a similar name as the Mott St. restaurant, now called Buddha Bodai One. The new one, on Mulberry st., is called Buddha Bodai Kosher Vegan. The two are not affiliated. I heard that some staff from Mott St. came over to Mulberry St. The menus are basically the same. A very few items are marked in the photo menu as having egg (e.g. Durian pastry).

The food was excellent. We had steamed taro dumpling, seaweed sesame roll (very delicate and good), straw bass in black bean sauce (always interesting), sliced veg fish, and stir fried pea pod leaves (always a favorite).

Service was good, although the young waiter seemed inexperienced.

It is always good to have another vegetarian/vegan choice of restaurants. This one is good, the Mott St Buddha Bodai remains as good as ever too.

Fine Vegan Choice

23 Jun 2013

We revisited Cafe Blossom, and had a very enjoyable meal. We had the Seitan Piccata special, the Zucchini Linguine (raw) and the Pistachio Crusted Tofu. The Tofu was rather plain, but the accompanying crepe was luscious. The linguine was a bit too creamy. We also had the Mushroom Ravioli appetizer, which was very flavorful. For dessert, we had the very rich Key Lime Cheesecake and the Signature Carrot Cake. The Carrot Cake was very well made. It was a very nice meal, with very pleasant ambiance and also fairly quiet for conversation. There were a number of gluten free options on the menu. We were very pleased.

A Favorite

25 Nov 2013

Candle 79 is one of my favorite restaurants. The food and service are dependably great. The menu always has many tempting options, plus the daily specials offer surprises. On our most recent visit, we had a grilled artichoke special appetizer and cornmeal poppers, which were superb. For entrees we had the special seitan, chanterelle crusted tofu, and fall vegetable & wild mushroom fricasee. All were quite good. For dessert we had a delicately flavored pumpkin flan, plus a delicious special caramelized fig. We thoroughly enjoyed this visit, as we have other times.

Always nice

02 Sep 2013

We occasionally eat at Candle Cafe, and have always found it pleasant, the food delectable and the service friendly and attentive. This time we had the Beluga lentil wrap entree special, the BBQ seitan sandwich and the pan-seared seitan au poivre. The seitan au poivre was probably my favorite of the three. We also had the special blueberry bundt cake (with soy ice cream) for dessert - great. An enjoyable visit as usual.

Candle makes welcome addition to the West Side

08 Jul 2013

As might be expected, Candle Cafe West's menu bears some similarities to its sister restaurants, Candle 79 and Candle Cafe. In keeping with the quality of the other Candles, I found the food delicious, the setting appealing, service excellent, and the restaurant's mission of organic and seasonal food laudatory. These restaurants are among my very favorites. We had among us a seaweed salad, the mole fajitas, chipotle grilled tofu and the special fettuccine. I especially enjoyed the fajitas and tofu. There was a substantial gluten-free menu. For dessert we had the berry crumble, with a variety of berries, and the peanut butter chocolate mousse pie. Both were excellent, flavorful and not overly sweet. We were very pleased to have this addition to the West Side.

A favorite of vegans in New Orleans

12 Jan 2013

I heard from the owner that a large portion of the clientele are vegans or vegetarians. That is understandable as there are always good vegan choices. The food was delicious. They smoke their own mock meats.
