Good pizza and sandwich spot
20 Nov 2011
Truly innovative and creative pizzas rotated on a daily basis. The sandwiches are also excellent. Although not exactly health food, it's probably the best vegan pizza place I've tried on the east coast and the best New York style vegan pizza I've ever had. I would recommend walking down South street to Whole Foods for dessert. This Whole Foods location had an amazing selection of vegan desserts, more so than any other location I've visited.

Good cupcakes and muffins

Not an all vegan shop, but the owners make sure to have a couple of vegan items available every day. We had the blueberry muffin and vanilla cupcake. Both were very good. I would go back.

Good vegan lasagna

Not much else that's vegan. Lasagna is worth the trip. It's also wheat free.

Healthy, good food

We stumbled upon this restaurant while trying to find our hotel, and it was a very pleasant surprise. They made a vegan plate for us consisting of beans, a hearty grain-like pasta with vegetables, potatoes with oregano, and salad. All the vegetables were organic and tasted very fresh, and the service was great. The staff speaks some English. It would be nice if they offered vegan desserts, though they did have some good dark chocolate.

I wouldn't go back

Vegan ravioli was bland. Called for take out and was initially hung up on. Called back and was told order would be ready in 15-20 minutes. They kept me waiting there for an hour. If you still want to go ask for vegan specials not on the menu. Those were good.

and some misses, but the hits are top-notch. The Adult Mac & Cheese is truly excellent, plus it has vegetables in it which gives the meal balance. For Sunday brunch, the Chimayo Burrito and Pancake of the day are stand-outs. A lot of misses on the dessert menu as well, but the tiramisu is very good.

Generally good, but not great

They have a good menu and some interesting pasta dishes that can be ordered in full or half size. The leafy greens were tasty although somewhat gritty. They perpetually have a sign on the door that they can't seat you that night because they're booked. However the night I was there the place was completely empty. I saw people walk up to the door, look at the sign and leave. I wonder how long they'll be in business.

Soggy and mushy

I've been there a few times now and everything I've tried has tasted this way, with the exception of the soups which are very good. This place is also somewhat expensive for Chinese food. Yuan Fu, which is nearby, is reliably better and less expensive.

Expensive and Not Family Friendly

We made reservations for Vedge a month in advance and stated at that time that we had a child who would need a high chair. The day before our reservation we received a call from someone at Vedge who told us they have no high chairs and that if we wanted to bring our child we would have to hold him while dining there. Not wanting to miss out on a great vegan restaurant we went there as scheduled. The food was very good, although expensive. The restaurant experience, however, was disappointing. They management and staff seemed to be going out of their way to punish us for bringing our child. They stuck us in a table in the middle of the floor so that people could not pass by us; they gave us very slow service compared to those around us; and several staff members kept coming over to our table to remind us they don't have high chairs. Don't vegan restaurants have a limited audience enough without having to further limit themselves to patrons without children?

I received an e-mail from Vegan Treats in response to a question I sent to them about their baked items. They contain HYDROGENATED OIL. According to the CDC this is more damaging to the heart than butter fat. Hydrogenated oils, also known as trans fats, have been banned by multiple cities and counties in the U.S. The American Medical Association supports efforts to ban the use of trans fats in U.S. restaurants and bakeries. As far as I can determine, Vegan Treats does not post the fact that their baked items contain these fats anywhere on their web-site. It is a shame that they use these fats as their baked goods look and taste excellent. Almost every other bakery that I know of that offers vegan baked goods use palm or coconut oils, which are non-hydrogenated fats.
