Good food, but limited choice.

21 Nov 2008

Eighth Day is in a great location for students in Manchester, opposite the Manchester Metropolitan University. The food there is good, but the choice is often quite limited. There's usually only 3 mains a day, if you don't count soup and pizza. The mains change daily, so if you're not too fussy, the lack of choice won't really bother you. However, what they do have is usually very tasty, healthy and filling! The pizzas are also very good, and better than you'll get in most restaurants.
But in my opinion, the decor really lets it down. The cafe can feel quite soulless at times, with boring light wood all over the place. Trays aren't usually cleared away fast enough either, and you will often have to sit on a table with someone else's leftover still on it.

Lovely cafe, great music, good food.

More of a cafe in the day, and bar at night. The place is pretty small, which can make it difficult to get a table at a busy weekend lunchtime, but the size of it adds to its cool, bohemian (sorry, I hate using that word) character. There's also plenty of interesting paintings around the place. The food is pretty good, with a bit of a Mexican/breakfast theme and its not too expensive either. The breakfast burrito is a favourite of mine and their hand-made chips are really something special! I recommend going there for the evening some time too, as they often have some exciting little bands upstairs.

Great food - Much better after the refit

I've always liked Greens, the atmosphere is great, the staff are very friendly and the food is some of the best I've ever had. The only criticism I could have levied at it before was the lack of space. Since they expanded into the shop next door, there has been a big improvement in this, although it is always still very busy. I guess that is the price to pay for popularity! Book well in advance if planning to go.
