Best damn vegan burrito.

04 Sep 2009

For the last three years (roughly since it opened) my husband and I have frequented Che every two weeks. Although plenty of meat is served - the former skate shop turned burrito lounge is incredibly vegan friendly. A customizable menu - Each customer gets a paper full of checkboxes and ingredient lists, and essentially, you design your own burrito, made to perfection. I am a large fan of vegan steak/black bean chilli OR sweet potato/vegan chicken. The sweet potato fries are the best in the city, and taste excellent dipped in the homemade salsa. Che is also a great place to casually drink on a Saturday night. Good DJs, usually not the typical obnoxious bar crowd Hess Village normally gets. I'd recommend Che in a heartbeat!

Vegan, unhealthy, but totally delicious.

My husband and I are frequent visitors to this quaint, vegan-friendly restaurant. It's only been open a mere four years and it is the first of its kind in Hamilton, Ontario. The restaurant itself has a very pleasant atmosphere which is quiet and calm. The service has never been top-notch, but the food makes up for it. While I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone concerned about overall health benefits of the food served - it IS delicious. Many of the items are deep-fried, or contain large amounts of oil. Personal favourites and recommendations: Sweet and Sour Bites, Soy Chicken & Plum Sauce, Kung Pao Soy Chicken, and White Jade on Seaweed. Tip: Purchasing a "combination" meal is a great way to sample the soup, spring rolls (best vegan spring rolls EVER), soy nuggets, salad, rice, entree and finish it off with herbal tea AND soy ice cream. Fantastic.

McMaster University - Diversity Services (!!!)

I'm a proud McMaster employee and vegan. Bridges accomodates students, faculty and staff who are vegetarian for political and religious reasons. The atmosphere is very welcoming -- a very warm and inviting lounge. The menu is a fantastic combination of different ethnic dishes and old standards. My personal favourites are the chilli on flatbread (with VEGAN CHEESE), giant samosas, and sweet potato fries.
My only regret with Bridges is that although it is open to the public, its not easily accessible if you're not on campus. McMaster parking is difficult, and the campus is very large.

Fast and Yummy!

My husband and I, both vegan, have been here once. I myself am an Indian food expert (self proclaimed). I like supporting this restaurant, which is small and family owned and operated. All of the staff are sweet (Of course!) and very helpful. Although this restaurant is vegetarian specific, which I greatly applaud, I'm afraid the food is unremarkable. It tastes good, and soothes cravings, but my experience was somewhat of a let-down. I ordered aloo gobi, channa masala (too much onion, not enough chickpeas!), and samosas.
