Quality Chinese vegetarian meals

12 Apr 2015

Although not cheap by Philippine standards, the serves are large (soup was enormous, enough for 6 people), the food fresh (asparagus with prawn balls excellent), and creative. There are several mock meats. Prawn ball, chicken, pork, plus the usual array of vegies, mushrooms, etc. Excellent service. The venue is enormous, with seating for maybe 200.

Great place on 1st floor above a meat restaurant on the ground in tourist district. Inexpensive food and grog (rum with fresh lemon juice D12000). Good pizza & pasta. Tasty Sheppard's Pie made with vegs & lots of onion with potatoe and cheese crust served in hot ramekin. Ate there often

Uninspiring food made by volunteers

Large modern permises on the foreshore promise much but deliver little. Food is bland thali style with very little variation. Watery vegetables, thin dhal, sauerkrout-style salad choice of plain or safron rice. No bread at the lunch (Sept 08).Watery cordial. Watery coconut desert passable

Brightly lit shop housing basic furniture the place serves simple fare at cheap prices. It is clean, the owner friendly (and English speaking ). We had a dosa served on a thali dish along with some beer. Very inexpensive tasty food in clean surroundings

Looks OK, but not cheap

I called in and looked at their extensive menu showing photos of most dishes, but opted for the cheaper restaurant in the same street (Quan Yin Chay where dishes are P50 each)rather than P130 on average here

Very good in most respects

Small modern and clean is the first impression. The menu has range of vegan foods, from starter palatter, thru several courses, then deserts. Wines and beers are modest, many are gluten free, and the Asti Moscato was excellent. Meal sizes are modest, but then again so was the price (1.5 botles wines, starter x1, 2 x mains cost E43. Mock meats are very good, food was served hot, and ingredients were fresh (apart from bread which was day old. Authentic Italioan cuisine
Serve yourself from fron counter I guess saves on wages, and one front-of-house woman managed all service, and did it well. Clean up after yourself. Friendly!
I am confident first timer would not be disappointed

Top class vegie restaurant

Up-market decor sets Enlightened as one of Melbourne's best vegie restaurants. The food is excellent, service good, prices reasonable (especially their lunch menu which is quite a bit cheaper). Michael Tait

Chinese with good vegie options

Narrow-fronted shop located across the way from the Old Market offers an extensive menu well illustrated with colour photos. Four friends ate there twice in September 2015. The first occasion a Sunday night when they were closing early, they kindly volunteered to stay on, and our waitress (Father's daughter) made recommendations to help with our vegetarian direction. And what great food she suggested we eat! Top choice was the Salted Tofu, small round discs of silken tofu dusted with flour and spices and deep-fried. Every dish we had was enjoyed by all. Beer was cold, service prompt and friendly. Cost for four incl plenty of beer US$30. Highly recommended

large building with both ground and first floor eatings areas. Ground floor rather spartan and gloomy, first fllor more modern. English in menu needs some clarfiication, like "Buddha over the wall".... ur guess is as good as mine.Mock meats are bland, and seem to be made in house. Not up to the standard of what is commercially available. Smallish sized dishes abt $8 each. Rice arrives at end of meal (if ur lucky). Beer warm, no ice available. Staff speak no English. I went back another night thinking I may have had an 'off-night'. Second night no better. Seems non mock meat dishes are better, mixed muchrooms quite nice

Great Food, Cheap as chips

Modest shop-front, Formica tables, spartan decor, and very little English, but what a treat for your palate. Great variety of mock meats, modest serves, super budget prices (abt A$5/head). You get lots of variety and leave satisfied. Try the Crab Soup, Crispy Pork, S/S Fish - to mention a few from a large menu. I went there 3 times in a week, and think it is the best in Bali. Check taxi driver knows the area. Hard to find, and set back from strret

Rudeness is provided for free

Sep 8 2014 My wife and I went for late lunch. The waiter, a Chinese woman in her 40s was so rude and abrupt my wife offered the remark "You don't seem very happy" The grunt was the reply, and it went downhill from there. Tasteless corn soup, sweet and sour fish was fried in batter was oily. Fried rice bland and soggy, Mushroom and vegetable also lacking salt, taste, appearance. All up, a failure

Simple shop with precooked food ranging from soup to mock meat dish, tofu, both fresh and cooked lumpia. All tasty, very cheap. (meal for 2 abt $6) Nothing flash, but tasty. Owners are Taoism apparenty, although i could not confirm becauase of their limited English. Michael Tait Australia

I ordered frm menu as buffet looked tired & and past use-by date. Soup OK. Sizzling beef didn't, consisted of limp beef sausage & chopped bell peppers. Gado gado a mix of cabbage, lettuce, beanshoots and peanut sauce. No egg! Very bland. Service ordinary. Expensive for what I got (A$40) michael tait

Loved it!. No alcohol, but the alc. free German beer was good. Terrific food, top class service, elegant atmosphere. Meal & drinks for 4 averaged $9 each. Attention to detail in food presentation & decoration is the best I have encountered anywhere. Michael Tait, Australia

Cheap simple fare, good by Manila standards

I ate here on 4 occasions in May '09. Prepared dishes in bain marie all required microwave heating to be adequately warm enough for me. Each dish cost P50. No beer available, ditto chili.
