best vegan food in rural Arkansas
12 Sep 2013
WARNING for the sensitive: this place specializes in hunted local meats.
That said, it's the best vegan food in the area. We've been to Jasper a few times for climbing at HCR, and this is my absolute favorite place to eat. We ate there every day during a recent long weekend.
The food is absolutely fresh, some was even plucked from the owners' garden that very day. The staff is great and was happy to attend to our vegan peculiarities and health-concious modifications.
There is a small organic grocery in the back, which includes items like coconut milk ice cream. After a hot day of climbing, what vegan doesn't want coconut milk ice cream for dinner? They will even make you a milk shake out of it if you ask nicely.
It would be great if there were a few more vegan options on the menu, but hey it's rural Arkansas.

small but functional

Very tiny place, with a wee bit of organic produce, some tofu, pasta and crackers (some of which are gluten free), nut butters, honey.

goodness and goodness

The food here is great--but don't go if you're on a diet :) . The menu is full of very healthy, fresh, diet-friendly fare. However, they have a large selection of super-awesome chocolates (some of which have honey, fyi). I suppose the name should have given it away.
The atmosphere was also just great. You should stop in for lunch. :)

The atmosphere here was just great, and the wait staff was incredibly friendly and understanding about my vegan-ness. While there were many vegetarian options, many of the sauces were butter based, so there was less for vegans.
However, I did enjoy their salsas and fruit--and discovered that pineapple is really great dipped in tomatillo salsa.
My non-veg friends really enjoyed their foods as well.

Vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores adored.

I stopped here with some rock climbing pals after an awesome climbing trip to the Red River Gorge. Everyone loved the vegan BBQ wings; omnivores liked the Ultimate Veggie sandwich. They have mead--if you love the mead, ask for the "schmead".
They were out of tofu when we were there, but the service was great and the food lovely.
I'm not a local, and was so happy to find such a place in Kentucky. A good place to take a mixed group of eaters. :)

Amazing artichoke dip and sake cider
25 Dec 2013
They were open and cheerful Christmas Eve! I was sad they had to work, but grateful for the lovely food :).
I think you should order the artichoke dip. IT WAS AMAZING. We asked about the ingredients, and my non-vegan friend who HATES nutritional yeast and creamy sauces was stunned to discover the creamy dip she was enjoying included nutritional yeast :)
We ordered the brown rice flour crust tofu ricotta green pizza and the pad thai. They were nice, but not super seasoned. We found our selves putting hot sauce on them. Cayenne pepper is my go-to condiment for almost everything, though. :)
For dessert we had these amazingly decadent coconut balls, that were just great, and home-brew hot cider with a little sake that really hit the spot. Great!

Nice little place with packaged foods/nuts/energy bars and personal care products. I didn't really see any produce while I was there.

Went to The Dosa Factory for the first time. The owners were super great--told us what was vegan, what had gluten, etc. There are LOTS of vegan options, and most everything is gluten free.
Also told us how to eat dosas and what everything was :).
The food was great and the people friendly.
I'll definitely be back.

Nice little place with both vegan and gluten free stuff. Nothing super fancy, but is super healthy. I'd definitely eat here again, especially since they have fare that is light, fresh, and seems to be made with love. :)

Vegan stuff was average

This is a fun a beautiful little place, with both vegan and gluten-free dishes. I only tried those, and they were OK. Not something to write home about, but good.

Nicely cooked veggies

We went here for brunch, and the atmosphere was friendly and casual. The staff were great; service was quick.
Menu items are clearly labeled as vegan and/or gluten free (my friend actually has celiac's).
I had the Kale Avocado salad and Bombay Bowl. The salad greens were fresh, and the bowl veggies were nicely cooked (e.g. still a little crunchy!).
I'd recommend this place to friends.

I'm weird about food: vegan, and I think I have irritable bowel syndrome, so I'm trying that FODMAPS thing. I showed up here sleep deprived from a conference and feeling slightly disoriented. They were so kind to me. :).
They have lots of vegan things. They make a lot of stuff fresh, and even let me read the ingredients list on their 'not-chicken' soy stuff (I was checking for non-FODMAPS stuff :).
I had a soup and salad, and I feel like it was the best soup I've ever had.
There is a little shop inside with healthy food treats (kale chips, nuts, chocolate, etc.) and some personal care produces.
Warm and inviting atmosphere. :)
