Unexpected vegan ice cream find!

29 May 2012

My spouse and I were in Charleston for the weekend and went over to the Whole Foods in Mount Pleasant. We saw a sign for "soybean frozen yogurt" at the Tutti Frutti shop. We had to go in and check it out and were were so excited to see that the flavors were peanut butter, vanilla and Oreo. It was actually frozen yogurt and not just sorbet! It was great because the people working were super friendly and knew that the flavors were vegan. They also let you sample the flavors to decide what you want. In addition to the vegan frozen yogurt, they had several vegan toppings to make it even more exciting. They had oreos, peanut butter sauce, chocolate sauce and many, many more! This was quite the unexpected treat of the trip!

Great vegan pizza options!

26 Apr 2012

Mellow Mushroom in Asheville is a great option when you have a group of people with a lot of different tastes. Mellow Mushroom serves vegan cheese (I believe they just switched to Daiya brand), tempeh and tofu. This makes the pizza more exciting for vegans! You can order one of their specialty pizzas or you can build your own. I like to build my own with tempeh, vegan cheese and all kinds of veggie options. Delicious!

Plant-Best Veg Place to Eat in Asheville!

26 Apr 2012

Plant is simply amazing! Everything about Plant is wonderful. The flavor combinations of the food are unique and everything I have had has been delicious. I highly recommend eating at Plant especially if you just have time to go to one veg restaurant in Asheville. I also love that Plant is 100% vegan. I don't have to substitute anything out on the menu or worry about any of the ingredients not being vegan. Also save room for dessert and coffee....it's part of what makes Plant so wonderful! They also have wine and beer and most of the ingredients they use are local. The only drawback is Plant is pretty expensive for my budget. It has to be a special occasion type of restaurant for us. Also, if you go on the weekend, consider making a reservation because it's usually very busy and it's a small restaurant.

Try the raw carrot cake!

04 Jun 2012

Raw food is okay but I have never really been crazy about it until I tried Veggie Love's raw vegan carrot cake. Amazing! The first time I tried it was at Asheville's Veg Fest in 2011 and then I kept getting it after that every time I saw the truck at a festival or around town. My spouse even stopped by and bought a big slice of it for my birthday this past year.
