Cheap and tasty

15 Nov 2009

Found this restaurant after reading the reviews on Happy Cow. The staff didn't speak English so we ordered two meals of what they were serving from a warmer thing. They put some rice on the plates, then we pointed at the various fake meats and veges that we wanted to try. The meal also came with a small bowl of bittermelon soup, and whole chillies were available, (although I didn't feel the need).

Great flavours

Nice modern atmosphere. The lunch special is now $7. Good value for the serving of rice, curry, and bhaji type things you get, and it all tastes really good. The service is also very friendly.

Great atmosphere

This restaurant is a short walk from the main centre. Although it was quite busy on the day we visited, the vibe was of a lot of people enjoying some seriously good food. We had the bittermelon soup, a cold noodle salad, and some of those small pancake-ish things made from rice paper. Everything was delicious and healthy tasting, and the lovely decor and surrounding garden features made for a very relaxing meal.

Nice little place with a great vege selection

We ate at this restaurant quite a few times as it was close to our hotel and everything we ordered tasted great. The lemongrass 'chicken' was one of the best things I had in Vietnam. I also recommend the fried rice served in a coconut bowl. The young coconut flesh you can scrape from the inside of the coconut is a perfect complement to the rice.
The restaurant seemed fairly quiet every time we were there, but the staff were friendly and the service was very efficient.

Great fake meats

We visited Sen a couple of times whilst in HCMC. The noodle soups we had were served with vietnamese mint, dried banana flower, lime, and some slices of the hottest chilli I have ever tasted. All very fragrant and delicious.
We also tried some of the fake meat dishes which were amazing. I wish I could get this stuff at home!
The service was friendly, the decor very clean and tidy, and the prices quite good although we were charged for moist towelettes on the second visit.

A peaceful place to stop mid-shop

This is a really cute little cafe in a good location. You can shop down one side of Colombo St, stop in for lunch, then head back up the other side. I would recommend going in after 11, as that is when they start serving burgers and more counter food comes out.
The buns they use for their burgers taste amazing! They are grainy but not coarse, and toasted just enough.

So many choices!

There were so many dishes I wanted to try. I ended up choosing the spinach and mushroom roulade which was delicious, and a generous portion for the price. The restaurant has lovely decor with lots of plants, and really friendly and knowledgeable staff.
