delicious and healthy vegan food
I absolutely love this restaurant. I have been coming here for many years and although the price has gone up a little in that time, the food is still just as delicious and filling as ever. Most people will get the buffet, now $12.90, which includes a plate of rice and dahl, vegetable curry (which changes each day), kofta balls with tomato chutney/sauce, fresh garden salad and dressing, and a pappadum. Plus a lemon, mint and ginger cooler which is deliciously refreshing, and halava and custard for dessert.
They have other options such as just buying one curry and rice for $6, and other individual options including lasagne and samosas. Takeaway options are also available.
The halava and custard is not vegan alas but the main is, minus their traditional yoghurt salad dressing. On my last visit I was pleased to discover they had a new vegan dressing! When ordering simply say a 'vegan buffet please' and they will know what to give you =). I hope that they will add a vegan dessert option to their menu.
It is a buffet so you are of course welcome to go back for more or ask for extra while they're filling up your plate but the food is so filling you probably won't need to. I'm usually full about halfway through but the food is so good I have to keep eating. The food has a unique and delicious taste that you will find nowhere else and just smelling it upon entering Govinda's makes my mouth water. It's always fresh and tastes a little different each time depending on the mix of vegetables and spices, and perhaps who is making it that day ;) The cooler may tickle your throat when they're a little generous with the ginger but usually it's perfect. The staff is always friendly. I suggest going early or late if you want to avoid the lunch rush. I find I'm always quite sleepy after eating here so allow some time to simply sit back and pat your satisfied stomach =).

Delicious food and friendly staff!
Delicious food and good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Mostly pizza as well as pasta and salads. I went with my carnivorous friend who fell in love with this place as well so we ate here three times during our short stay in Athens. We shared one of the starter breads with sun-dried tomatoes, my friend had the margarita pizza and I ordered the green veg pizza. Big servings with lots of toppings, hemp pizza base is amazing, soft and chewy. Unfortunately the fresh hemp pasta is made with eggs so I didn't get to try that but everything I ate was filling and yummy. The guy working here is always super friendly and helpful, speaks good English, and the menu is in English too. I can only recommend you go to Mystic Pizza if you're in Athens!

nice vegan food
I hadn't been here in a few years and on my visit a few weeks ago I got a tofu burger and my friend had a toasted sandwich. Both were nice but I would have liked them to have been more interesting and different to something one could easily make at home. The curries I had here a few years ago were very nice and served with brown rice. If you want to eat out or aren't in the mood for cooking then this is a good option. They have a nice healthy selection of burgers, wraps, salads, curries and cakes, as well as shakes, smoothies, juices and coffee. My friend and I shared a slice of vegan cheesecake which was dense, rich and delicious. Sometimes they have a chocolate beetroot cake which I'm told is amazing too. Their shakes and smoothies are also really nice but the small glasses left us wanting more. The mains are about $10, cakes $7 and drinks $5, roughly. I found the food to be very nice but a little expensive for the small servings we received. Although HappyCow lists this cafe as vegetarian I was told it's all vegan. I remember seeing aioli on their menu though, maybe they have a vegan version but double check when ordering.
