A nice surprise

We stumbled across this place while shopping at a couple of vintage stores up the street. Definitely a nice surprise!
The staff here were lovely, very friendly and attentive even while my partner and I just sat down with drinks waiting for our friend to finish her shopping. The pizzas (when we finally ordered them) were great, and easy to customise. They could have been more generous with the toppings, but since we don't have good vegan cheese at home, I didn't mind the mouthfuls of just cheese at all.
The brownies were also delicious- so good that our friend devoured hers on the walk from the restaurant to the bus stop. An admirable feat, since they're not small. I'll be coming back here next time I'm in San Diego.

Great good, great staff

We came here at the end of our American adventure, and still weren't quite over the sheer amount of options (as opposed to those in Australia). So a vegan fast food joint was always going to score well.
We tried the bacon cheeseburger and 'south of the border' burger, both of which were delicious- even if I made a bit of a mess with the latter. The shakes we had to go with them weren't the best I've had- too icy for me- but the sweet potato fries and brownies more than made up for that. By far the best brownie I've ever had.
The staff here were also some of the nicest we found anywhere on our trip. We had a nice long chat about where we were from and where we'd been, and they offered us some of the durian they were snacking on out the back. A really great experience all around.

I guess I'm in the minority here...

I'd heard a lot about this place before I was in San Diego, so I knew I'd have to check it out. And to be honest, I was pretty disappointed.
The atmosphere and decor are great (even if the place doesn't have a bathroom) and the menu looked promising. Unfortunately, I found the tofu, mushroom and potato burrito to be pretty bland- definitely not the revelation I'd been expecting. My two companions also both reviewed their meals as 'eh'.
As others have said, the service was beyond poor. Food was slammed onto the table, and our waiter was rude when we didn't understand the term 'wet burrito'- it's not a term used outside of the US, and we shouldn't have been made to feel stupid for not having heard it before. Luckily other restaurant patrons were a lot nicer and keen to talk to us, but I won't be recommending Pokez to anyone I know heading to San Diego.
