My boyfriend and I stayed in here for 5 hours the other day! We had the vegan ice cream shakes, cakes, platters, more drinks, and more food when a friend arrived. He's not veggie but enjoyed it. It was a very laid back place and the staff were friendly and attentive - contrary to some of the comments on here. Great choice and range of food for vegans.

Surprisingly good for vegans
17 Sep 2011
I was in York for work, arriving Sunday evening. I had checked Happy Cow for veggie/vegan places but none were going to be open at that time. A colleague said that this place came up on her search for vegetarian so we gave it a go. On informing the waitress that I was vegan she went and got a specially marked up menu and many of the vegetarian tapas dishes were vegan, and didn't mean 'missing' the non-vegan thing out either. The three of us had a good selection of dishes - about 3 per person is about right - and it was nice to try lots of different things. All the ones I had were good. Wine list also specified vegetarian / vegan. So, a good place to go if the fully vegetarian / vegan places are closed. Nice decor and surroundings. Reasonably priced, and the food section of our bill for 3 people only came to just over £30.

Tasty and simple

Branded as 'street food', this is a very central venue. I was served quickly, and I think all, or nearly all, the main meals were vegan. The menu was: curry, noodles, burger, veg skewers, quesadillas (sp?), dahl etc. Plus a selection of cakes. The carrot cake was vegan and yummy.
You can eat in or take away. My own small issue is that even if you eat in the food is served on (compostable) single-use trays and cutlery. What's wrong with plates, or the lovely stainless steel that other HK places use? Probably more environmentally friendly than throw-away stuff.

Ate here with family on Sun 2nd Dec and was glad it was open as few places were. Between us we had 1 starter, 3 mains and 4 puddings and it was all good. One person was very taken with the mini 'basket' of chips in their main! I can't remember now what we had but it was all tasty and the service was friendly and helpful

Tasty and good value

I ate here on a work trip to London. Being close to Euston train station it is very convenient. Although the menu isn't labelled with vegan items the waiter advised what was suitable. Great flavours and good value. There weren't any vegan desserts, but I was given a complimentary fruit salad instead. As a single female I didn't feel uncomfortable here. Highly recommend.

Great market stall
13 Sep 2015
Great stall for savoury vegan (and vegetarian) items such as pies, tartlets, dahl soup etc. Also stocks an amazing selection of dried chillies and lots of other spices etc.
Easy to find in the indoor market, round the side of the clock tower. Lovely staff.

Ate here with my vegan Mum for family visit to city. Had food in evening (serves till 7pm I think) and she ate here one lunchtime on her own too when I had left. Food is hearty and tasty, although they didn't have our first choice of meals.

Lovely outside courtyard

Had a couple of hours in Angouleme and was recommended to come here. Enjoyed the vegan scones and a cup of tea, in the lovely courtyard.

Ok for fast-food take-away/eat in
06 Oct 2013
Reasonably priced for Paris, french fries (chips) were nice, and although I don't like fake meaty stuff, the burger was ok. The cheesecakes were the best.
They didn't have a couple of the dishes I would have had instead of the burger which was a shame.
Good location on left bank of the Seine.
Downside is the result of it being a fast food place - something I usually avoid. Plastic trays, plastic cutlery, plastic everywhere. Didn't seem like any of it was recycled, and neither was it made of biodegradable materials.

Nice for lunch

I ate lunch here twice whilst on holiday and was pleased to see quite a few vegan meals on the menu and clearly marked. Food was tasty and came with additional salads. Lovely chocolate cake. Reasonable amount of seating and also an outdoor bit.

Wonderful place to relax
17 Sep 2011
My boyfriend and I have stayed here twice now, the most recent a couple of weeks ago. We cycled over 5 hours and got rained on near the end so made good use of their drying room. House bedrooms are lovely and we were very very pleased with our 3 course evening meal. Just about had room for the many courses of breakfast in the morning and didn't need much else till the evening meal! Great location to explore the area - walks, river, cycling. If you're on a cheaper budget you can camp or use the bunkhouse, but you can also still have breakfast and evening meals in the B+B. Very friendly owners. The B+B is actually an old mill and the dining room has kept a lot of the old equipment.

I also pop here if I have time whilst waiting at Shrewsbury train station - it's only 2 minutes walk from the station! Has all you would expect from a health food shop including chilled food, dried, non-food items etc. Also sells great fresh samosas and onion bhajis!

Great choice for vegans
14 Jul 2014
My (Italian speaking) sister asked which ice creams were vegan and as well as all the fruit sorbets they did a new range of flavoured dark chocolate ice cream, as well as vanilla, vanilla choc-chip, hazelnut etc. They also did gluten free cones which turned out to be vegan.
I think they may have done savoury food but we did not look at that menu. Has a park opposite where you can eat your ice cream, or eat in.

Updated from previous review on Thursday February 05, 2015
My first review was from February 2015, but since then the owner has expanded the menu, adding in Socca pizza, a new peanut burger, done one-off themed evenings, and, has added vegan, and sometimes gluten-free, cakes. All the cakes are amazing. His latest creation, an inventive vegan rocky road version, is just amazing.
[Below is my Feb review]
I mistakenly thought this was just a smoothie bar, but it's a down to earth cafe as well, with a select changing menu. There was soup, cawl (Welsh thick soupy stew), salads, or ciabattas on offer. The owner is v. happy to adapt options to suit your tastes!
Soup and cawl both came with a lovely vegan garlic bread roll, and the ciabatta was lovely - we had added avocado in ours! Serves hot drinks too.
Good opening hours, inexpensive, down to earth. Also sells ranges of chocolate bars and boxed teas.

Sophisticated and tasty
28 May 2011
My second evening meal in Edinburgh and the best! Loved the low lighting and sophisticated ambiance. Staff all very attentive and friendly. Food was great - really good choice for vegans with interesting and unusual dishes or twists on usual ones. The flavours were all lovely and the portion sizes good. Would definitely recommend if you feel like treating yourself. More expensive than other places, but worth it.

Great shop and food
31 Dec 2012
Was visiting Manchester for the first time in 8 years so it was interesting to see all this changed. The shop was really extensive and we got a range of things not available in the health shops where I live, as well as some cooked food from the counter in the shop. To our amazement they were holding a special evening meal that night so we ate downstairs at one of the Christmas evening dates. The food was very good -so good that I couldn't leave a single bit, and had the set 3 courses so was absolutely stuffed by the end of it. Downside was that it was a bit noisy as the venue is a bit echoy, and there was a large table of loud students - maybe spoilt is a bit for the other diners, but that's not the restaurant's fault. Highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I ate here for three nights in one week whilst on holiday in York, and every meal was great. The variety of dishes means you can sample lots of different flavours. All the food is vegan which is a huge bonus. We particularly liked the dahl, corn fritters, sweet potato pate, 'meat' balls, chick pea curry, and the chocolate cake. Menu features international dishes. Be warned though - don't over-order the tapas dishes - we ordered so much the first night we could hardly sleep because of our full tummys! But we couldn't waste such lovely food. Staff very friendly. Worth booking a table if you're going when it's a busy time of day or during a holiday period. Only one negative thing- the cheesecake was way too cheesy and little other flavour.

Personal vegan biscuits!
18 May 2016
A very warm welcome by the owners, who had made vegan biscuits and put them in a tin in my room, and who provided advice on where to eat on a Sunday evening in King's Lynn. Their recommendation (Lynn Restaurant) was very good.
A healthy good breakfast and then I was on my way.
It was only a 10 min walk from the train station, through a lovely park.
