Vukovarska 36, Dubrovnik, Croatia

Saves the day

20 May 2008

If you are vacationing in Dubrovnik for a few days you are better off cooking your own food. Forget eating out; it is expensive and most menus choices end with weak appetizers. Bio&Bio really saves the day. This place is as good as any health food market in the States.

Better looks than food

Nice place to meet a friend for a drink and maybe some starters.
As a restaurant it doesn't live up to its impressive interior.

one of the coziest neighborhood cafes i've visited to date.
their soups and sandwiches are excellent. their simple menus will rarely leave you disappointed with your choice.

Way to go

Veg. buffet. Draws a lot of locals. Young crowd largely. Great view of the city. Cheap for Swedish standards.

exceptional falafel and pita. all fresh, house-made.
only falafel and french fries go in the fryer, no need to worry here. very happy with baba, wish the hummus was a notch stronger. clean place, fast service, worth a stop anyway you look at it.

It's here, or nowhere

Macrobiotic food (serves fish). Creative menu. The only place in town for sushi -- good sushi. The owner runs the place by himself -- nice guy. Decent wine list. Mostly international crowd.

Delirious food

We ate like Romans here; the bill totaled $100+. Aaah, it was worth it. This is a popular place, we saw many families with kids, and a group of college dudes who were so captivated by the food they didn't even notice that TVs are missing. At one point, a farmer was going around a restaurant selling fresh strawberries. We took a carton home, but didn't eat it until two days later when the food wore off. Make sure you visit this place before the bears from the surrounding mountains descend upon it.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Yes, it's got a nice ambience, good cocktails and plenty of tipsy british chicks. Their menu on the other hand is hit or miss. It is deceptive for one thing because it gives you the impression that there are 50 different dishes that you can choose from. In essence it all comes down to 5 or 6 principal dishes the rest being variations of these -- typical for lack of creativity. Servings are large, but that doesn't say anything about their quality. I have had good and bad food here. Stay away from tofu and mexican dishes. And I recommend you order their guacamole to satisfy your curiosity only, not to eat it. But keep in mind this is Czech Rep. we are talking about here and not California.
