Hi Snail,
I saw your review of our cafe the other day and just wanted to check in with you about it. As a dedicated vegan, I was disappointed that our level of veganism was not satisfactory to you.
When we decided to open a vegan cafe in 2008, we determined that refusing to serve milk in folks' coffee would undermine our viability as a business (despite its reputation, Asheville's vegan population is small). Faced with the option of serving limited dairy or risking closure (thus, further limiting local v*gan options), we chose to compromise in this area by stocking a local, organic milk. Aside from this, our entire menu is vegan with ABSOLUTELY NO animal ingredients in our food and plenty of vegan milk options (including soy, almond and coconut) to woo people away from their dairy addictions. With a little encouragement, many of our regulars have stopped using milk in their drinks. Hopefully we'll be able to eliminate it all together someday!
In the meantime, we are the only restaurant in WNC dedicated to veganism and we actively participate in local food politics, raising money for Mercy for Animals, hosting an animal rights reading group and many other veg*n events.
You gave us a rating of only 2/5. If this was based primarily on your irritation with milk on our cream cart, please reconsider. If there were other factors, we'd like to hear them!
Much appreciation,
E Scott
