Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

Being vegetarian is great, and a giant step in the direction of a healthy, compassionate lifestyle. After being vegetarian for 6 years, I recently have come to feel that being "vegetarian" isn't takeing it far enough (for me). Once I made the connection between the veal industry and the dairy industry and began learning more about the production of eggs, I cannot continue to consume animal products. It's all connected!! Also as a vegan, I focus strongly on eating organic, local, healthy foods. Simply avoiding animal products isn't good enough. We have to take proper care of ourselves. Vitamins!!

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

I was looking up veg places for an upcoming trip to Portland, when I discovered HappyCow. I went on to find a few veg places I hade worked at across the country, namely Govinda's in Philly (I love and miss you guys!!). I wanted to be able to post about them as well as learn more about other places as I travel.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

Book Lover's Cafe in Gainesville, FL. Govinda's Gourmet To Go in Philly (best vegan cheesesteak you'll ever find), although I recommend the sandwich shop over the fine dinning, they are both worth while. Rossetta's Kitchen and the Laughing Seed Cafe in Asheville, NC are staples of mine.

Usually anything tempeh involved. A big shout out to Jose's Tempeh in Gainesville Florida! spicy dishes, southern style vegan soul food, latin-inspired, african (specifically ethiopian), eggless pad thai. vegenais, siracha, nutritional yeast, earth balance - where would I be with out those condiments?
