More About Me
Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
Eating vegan has changed my life for the better since day 1, which was 7 years ago. One could write paragraphs as to the reasons for going vegan, and some have written very compelling books, such as "Ask Me Why I'm a Vegetarian" and others that give concrete details that are ascertainable facts. The short answer for me is also a slogan you can find on T-shirts: "Animals, Earth, Health". For the animals, I can't stand the brutality and the hubris of the concept that we humans will kill what we wish for our own gastronomical pleasure. For health, there is no question that I feel better, have clearer skin, and am slimmer that when I used to eat the "M", and that is just the surface evidence. For the earth, it is by now common knowledge that raising animals for food is also harmful to the environment in land, water, and carbon usage. But the takeaway is that I simply enjoy vegan food more. Maybe it's the lack of guilt, maybe it's the good karma, I don't know. Also, since going vegan I have slimmed down 30 pounds (and still going) without going nuts with exercise, diet programs, etc. Common sense activity (walking, yoga, dancing for fun) and a healthy vegan diet have gotten me slim as I get into my early 30's, an age where people who eat lots of meat tend to start getting heavier. Too bad for them.
I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
This website is so helpful for eating healthy vegan/vegetarian meals while traveling, but it also helps you find the local businesses that give you a real sense of the place you are visiting that you can't get from eating at the same old chains that are alike everywhere. I always have fun going to these unique places, and I feel good supporting local businesses whenever possible. It is part of what traveling is all about, going somewhere that gives you an experience you can't have anywhere else. Happy Cow gives you great access to healthy, compassionate dining and shopping that is so quick and easy to access. I am so grateful to this website.
