More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

well everyone know the basic reasons why people choose something other than the standard American diet, animals, environment, health. All of these are important to me. Having a 2nd child later in life woke me up to the realities of my genetic disposition for death at 79.5 years. It's been pretty consistent for 3 generations. My oldest child probably won't have kids, maybe my youngest will and I'll actually get to see grandchildren. But I also want to feel like I've broken the family curse of 79.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

I've been using this site for years, particularly when I traveled a lot. Now I travel less but pay more attention to activities like joining communities such as HC.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

Albuquerque had some great vegan and veg places to eat. Omaha, not so much. LA, well it was all over but you'll need a car. San Antonio had one decent place to eat - don't even bother with the River Walk. Hope to do more Europe some day. Had friends say that Thailand had some vegan places to eat but that it was not for the faint of heart.

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

I'll be the first to admit that I do like faux meat products, tempeh, and very firm tofu but try to avoid most of the Chinese places that have a small veg menu. My favorite salad is the "All Hail Kale" salad at Veggie grill, a chain in the LA area. At home, we use fake meat a couple times a week - and have lots of green smoothies!

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
