More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

There are so many reasons to be vegetarian--- For me personally, I have always loved all animals and at a very early age made the connection between various meats and dead animals. I remember being perplexed that "beef" or "veal" or "pork" was not just called what it was-- cow, calf and pig--- and wondering if humans were eaten, what would that meat be called to disguise its origin? Anyway, beyond that major reason, it makes more sense politically, economically, ethically, and just for health reasons. Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:

Books: I'm a book-whore--- I'll read just about anything non-fiction... thus far, mostly philosophy, eastern religion, science, sociology, some history--- I go into phases. Mags: New Yorker (every week!), The Economist, Harpers, Utne Reader, Mother Earth News, Architectural Digest, Dwell, Horticulture, Garden Design Movies: Anything by Werner Herzog, Stan Brakhage, Matthew Barney, Jan Svankmajer, Warhol plus the usual foreign biggies-- maybe I'll add more here later
