My goal in the next 6 weeks is to become a Vegan. I have been an omnivore for 24 years and need a change. I plan on gradually switching out vegan for non vegan items in my diet until I am completely on a Vegan diet.

More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

I have always had an unhealthy relationship with food, and my body has been the victim. I plan on being vegan for the rest of my life to make up for the years of ups and downs I have put my body through. Plus, the more I think about eating another living creature, the harder it is for me to even want to.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

I thought it would be a great place to be able to express myself and not be judged. I know that when I come on here and say that I am vegan, I won't get, "But, why?!" or "Well, I couldn't do it" I have a safe place :)

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

Since I just became vegan, I haven't tried any places that would cater to veganism. But, I must say that I do absolutely love the Rochester Food Co-Op.

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

I love almost all fruits! I haven't experimented too much with actual vegan meals, but I will get there. I just have to start off with some of the easier ones.

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:

I would definitely recommend "Becoming Vegan" by Brenda Daivs, R.D. and Vesanto Melina, M.S., R.D. Also I would suggest "How It All Vegan" but Tanya Barnard and Sarah Kramer. Becoming Vegan tells you all about the diet you need to maintain your health, all the vitamins and minerals your body needs, how to go about getting them and so much more. How It All Vegan is more sassy! haha. It has good tips and tricks and also a lot of great recipes to get you started!
