More About Me
Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:
While I've been a vegan since '96, I file my vegetarianism and veganism under different parts of my brain. In '91, I was driving along and had the thought "why kill to eat when I don't have to"? -- and since that day I've never looked back. It's black and white: "pleasure" and "convenience" don't cut it for me as reasons to kill. Veganism: I always sympathized with / admired other vegans (political arguments), decided to try it out for the hell of it in '96, and it just plain stuck. I see the veganism as more of an active choice, and the vegetarianism and a simple common sense, compassion-101 kind of thing.
I joined HappyCow Members Community because:
I know very few other vegetarians, and just moved to a new area (NJ/NYC-adjacent), and would like to get to know some folks. Also, wouldn't mind having my kids (both vegetarians too) get to know some other veggie families kids. Please, if you're inclined, drop me an email to say hello.
Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:
Would love to visit Rome. Was impressed on my trip to England/Ireland that so many restaurants had vegetarian sections or "asterisks" (moreso than Boston). Greece was amazing (honeymoon in '94), would love to go back.
Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:
My daughter asks me this question frequently. Currently, my fave veggie is kale, & favorite fruit is dates. I love just about all veggies, really (didn't used to be that way).
Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
Do these have to be hippie-friendly? Well, I mentioned books above... for movies and such, see the link to my facebook page.
