I am my own ruler The president of my state The one who makes My own laws And judge myself when I break Absorbing the essence of Freedom To love who I love Be accepted by my own Utopian society Where beliefs encourage Strong voices And ideals of Equality Where ones color Is only regarded in Crayon Boxes and Abstract art Where Men can kiss men And people appreciate the beauty Of Difference Where one with a Handicap is not seen As a Defect But as a positive Affect Where we grow to learn about Our similarities And fade out False Stereotypes BUT My true reality is… I live in a world That is ruled by The laws That restrict my Freedom To be equal To love who I choose To sign a civil union To be me... Because the ruler of my state Judges me due to Faith As visions of homosexuality Is viewed as an abnormality That force Flamboyant sprits Into dark closet spaces Cramped by others Scared to escape But Some Many Have crept through the cracks Of despair Those who prefer to fight Rather than just bare The injustice of our world So I will stand up with them Because things need to be fair But for now For me I am my own ruler The president of my own Fate. by Xiomara 11/15/05
