More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

I'm vegan because I love and respect animals. Take just one animal - the cow - for example. When you think of how much the cow gives to humans...her flesh as meat, her breast milk taken from her babies and made into milk, cheese, ice cream, her male babies taken from her and made into veal. Her female babies taken from her to repeat the cycle of violence. All this is horrid enough. But the real deal breaker for me is how our society treats an animal who gives us all this. We beat them and hide them away in factory farms where they can never feel the sunlight on their skin. We chain them, shoot them up with antibiotics, taze them and ruthlessly kill them. If our society is going to use these animals for nourishment, we should be holding them in the highest regard possible and treating them with the utmost respect. Instead we do the opposite. And that's why I'm vegan.

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:

Favorite mags: Veg News, Peta magazine that you get with membership, and I admit to reading US Weekly gossip magazine : ). Quote I liked: "Within the bad there exist the good. Just like roses have thorns, we can't always look at the thorns, we must gaze at the rose."

Thanks! It was actually taken at the Sanctuary in Woodstock, NY. I have been to the Farm Sanctuary a couple times and have gone to their annual Feed The Turkey's event each of the past two years. I'm out in Boulder Colorado right now learning to become a vegan chef
