More About Me

Reasons why I prefer to eat vegetarian or vegan:

When I was 10 years old I witnessed a sheep slaughtering. Since then, iv'e reduced my meat and animal product consumption. There were times when I've returned to eat meat or dairy products or eggs, but I did not feel very good afterward. Having said that - I try not to judge others for their choices. I will go out with non vegetarian friends, even to a steak house. I will eat the salad. I've found out that if I do not preach, my friends become more curious about veganism and even try my vegan cooking.

I joined HappyCow Members Community because:

So many places I want to know about, to tell about. And so many people to meet. I'm a life-time traveller, and always happy to meet new people.

Here are some places I've been that I liked... and places that I would like to visit one day:

Originally, I'm from Israel, which is vegetarian heaven. The cheapest street food is strictly vegan. Kosher restrictions also allows you to find non-dairy food very very easily (funny enough - especially in a meat restaurant). My second most-loved place to eat vegan food is Thailand. Buddhism makes it easy and supper cheap to be vegan. Once you learn the word for vegan - "J" life is good. In Thailand I love the small local vegan eateries for Buddhists in their Merit period of life. They are all around, usually signed with red-and-yellow. Mai-Kai-Dee's restaurant in Bangkok is one of my favorites in Thailand. Another great place is Tag Mahal Indian restaurant in Chiang Mai. Fantastic.

Some of my favorite veg*n foods include:

Tahini- I eat 0.5 kilos every week when I am in Israel. Humus - But only very good hummus, in a middle eastern restaurant. Israeli Humus is unbelievably good. Raw salads - which you can find all around the middle east and Mediterraneans. So many options, colours, textures, flavors and healthy nutrients. Legumes - Full of protein, flavors and endless ways of cooking. Rice soup - the ultimate Thai breakfast. I'm in love. Noodle soup- SEA's way of surviving anything. Indian samosa: filled with veggies, potatoes and chickpeas. And the Indian unforgettable spices.

Here are some books, movies, magazines, and my favorites that I would recommend to other HappyCow members:
